It's blasphemous that it's the third most voted for song. It will not go down without a fight. :fencing:

Edit: Aw, I wouldn't call Patience boring, though it's not a favorite of mine from the EP (One in a Million, Move to the City, and You're Crazy are far better imo).

I don't get the love for Coma. It's a cool song and all definitely not top ten worthy.

I can't agree with that at all. Out of all the GNR epics, Coma is the least varied. Like I said, it's one of the better UYI songs but it really isn't anything special. I'd take Locomotive over it for sure.

Coma is just the most awesome song they've ever done. Period :D It is like the only song where they don't sound like some kind of hair metal band that didn't make it...

I tend to be more ballad friendly than most the folks round here, but I'm surprised at the hate for Patience. It was one of the songs that originally got me into GnR (if I recall I had Patience, Paradise City, Nightrain and one other originally), I can recall singing it (quietly) around the house when I was a teenager >.>

It's a very special song to me for other reasons, and even though I can't listen to it any more I'm still against it's elimination :p

Coma on the other hand, is fantastic. Iirc the only reason it wasn't performed live more was the strain on Axl's voice. Doesn't really need more variation imo. I mean of the maiden epics I would say Rime is the least varied yet everyone loves that :P

Patience is not a bad song, but it is boring. Coma being compared to Rime is absurd. Get a grip, people!

Well, I actually DO prefer Coma to Rime, without question.

My initial comment was more about the implication that Coma is inferior due to lack of variation - which I can't really say applies to Rime either, not to say neither is varied, but that if Rime's variation is "enough" then so is Coma's.

It is however, all opinion and all valid.

Patience is an empty song. Nothing ever happens. Just some chords playing, vocals and lyrics are nothing special. Boring and cheesy as hell.

Describes Blowin' in the wind perfectly too.. nothing ever happens, just some chords - but I'm damn sure there would be an argument against that song not being classic ^^.

I don't find it empty at all, even before the song got a more personal connection to my life it was something that could evoke considerable emotion to me even if just because the lyrics aren't crazy outlandish or anything, they're 'familiar'. I find it very soulful

It doesn't feel repetitive to me at all, either listening or playing I don't feel like I'm repeating stuff any more than the average metal song does. Playing/listening to Rime on the other hand feels incredibly repetitive to me.. infact come to think of it, the majority of Maiden feels it when played, less so when listened.

I sure hope we're not headed for another Fugitive level discussion >.>
