Cydonia also happens to be the name of a location on Mars with a famous face shape made out of mounds of barren dirt — a “face in the sand”, if you will. Oblonga is the only species in genus Cydonia.

I also gave a couple of extra hints in my responses — when responding to “Space Truckin’” I noted that Mars was “getting warmer”, and in responding to “Brighter Than A Thousand Suns” I left “sand” non-italicized.
Honestly, I thought someone would crack this on clue #2 or #3. Oh well.
