GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Danzig - Danzig - Lacrimosa's blend of influences are jelling together enough for me. Danzig is simple hard rock but it's perfectly decent. A weird round with both participants not really being metal.

Opeth - Orchid - While nowhere near as refined as their later output, Orchid just has too many great riffs and passages throughout. There are portions in the album where it feels a bit bloated, but the blend and overall aesthetic they have going on here is just excellent.

Cult of Luna - Mariner - It was decent enough for me to vote for it over a non-metal album. In Utero may or may not be the better album overall, but the concept of the game tilts my vote toward Mariner.

Strapping Young Lad - City - Have already expressed my high praise for City, it'll be sad to see it go but it's understandable - not something that would appeal to a lot of people. Accept does nothing for me, not exciting in any way as a heavy metal band.

This is confusing. Before the game started, it was okay to nominate non-metal albums. Now people are voting against them simply because they're non-metal.

Manowar obviously saw the GMAC coming.

ah this is taking the piss, Danzig are not metal now

EDIT: do people really think tiger tailz and pretty boy floyd fans in 1988 were going "I can't wait to get the new hard rock album from Danzig!"

You can nominate as you want. But you can also vote against based on any criteria you want. You can vote against Nirvana because you don't like Dave Grohl. You can vote against Cult of Luna / Julie Christmas because as an atheist the name Christmas offends you.

Lacrimosa's last-minute substitution into the GMAC has failed and they're eliminated again, as Danzig next faces Skyclad.
Opeth rolls over Children of Bodom, though honestly not as dominantly as I expected. COB is done and next for Opeth is AC/DC.
Nirvana holds out against a really niche album from Cult of Luna / Julie Christmas. Next up for Nirvana is Rammstein.
Finally, Strapping Young Lad falls to Accept. Devin Townsend's still in the game, but SYL isn't. Next in Match 8 is Symphony X.

Just want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been participating, and to encourage voting. Thanks a lot and this has been a lot of fun so far!

What stuff have you discovered or found anew that speaks to you? For me, the bands I really found myself liking a lot so far are Persefone, Alcest, and surprisingly, Death. The Death song linked above is really fucking good. I gotta go through the back catalogue.

I need to listen to more SOAD and Nuclear Assault to determine who I am voting for. Sabbat and Death have already earned my votes.
