Oooh, Im here (in some fashion), and it seems that my vote may be of some use in the first Metal Battle of thos round.
For those that have not unfollowed me, it may be known that Priest do my tits in but I just listened to One Shot and decided that I will give them a fair shake this time....

The Chemical Wedding is losing.PNG

Every time I look at you, I don't understand
Why you let the things you did get so out of hand
You'd have managed better if you'd had a plan...

This is not the first time I have listened to Painkiller. My thoughts are the same as usual. Priest are odd. Some crackin riffs. Night Crawler always stands out, I love the vocal drop down at the end of the lines in the verse, you know the bit I mean, and the lead melody before the middle vocal bit, its the origin (dont quote me on that. Or do, and educate me) of every Viking Metal tune Ive ever loved (actually, maybe folk is to blame here, but either way, its brilliant) but Priest still manage to bore me, even playin great music. Does anyone get me here? Great but not good? They sound over produced and flat, to my ears. Everything sounds intentional. But not in a good way. Some great, great riffs but they manage to turn me off. Mechanical. Maybe thats the word.
This is almost close. Ride or Thrash or Metallica is not massively up my street but Fade and Bells steal the show, for me. Id like to hear Metallica cover Night Crawler. Maybe this would be the perfect amalgamation of these bands. Theres plenty that I find bland on both these albums, Trapped Under Ice, for example. And lots of Painkilller. Escape sucks.
So Priest, on a whim. Even though I prefer Metallica. And Bells is unreal. Why am I voting Priest? Fuck knows. That said, the slidy middle bit of Fade is one of my favourite bits of music ever, for some reason. Totally flicks my bean.
Second round is easy. 7th Son . This game has encouraged me to listen to Chemical Wedding a few times. I think its great. Some of the best work from Bruce Bruce and I have definitely woke up several times recently with songs and vocal lines in my head. Ive had his Best Of since it came out (2001?) but only listened to CW in full ina couple of years ago. It's very good. The words and melody and performance of CW, Gates, The Tower, brilliant stuff. But, ye know, 7th Son. The fact that I was questioning my choice says alot for Chemical Wedding. If CW trimmed its fat, was 40mins instead of 70, this might be a tighter call. But really the outrot of 7th Son alone takes this. I adore so much of this album, Madness and Clairvoyant bein the weakest points for me and neither really skippable.
This is weird. I love and prefer Bruce on CW and his performance very almost steals it but 7th Son takes it for nostalgia and Infinite Dreams, their best song since Di'Anno.

To the ten people who voted for The Chemical Wedding, DM me your address and I’ll mail you all a personal thank you letter as promised. We didn’t win, but it was a valiant effort.

And now we enter the semi finals. Three bands. Four albums. Two of these will meet in a third place match, and the final two will put it all on the line.

Honour.
Integrity.
Skill.
Power.
A hastily photoshopped trophy to be tweeted to their band's social media account.
Everything that matters.

Iron Maiden has always seemed like they were destined to win this tournament, and they've gotten through two contenders. But first they have to go through Rainbow, which may very well have the song on it that is the most Maiden-like without being made by Iron Maiden. And on the other side? The only surviving Metallica album.

Will it be Maiden vs Maiden?

Will it be Rainbow vs Metallica?

You decide, starting now.

I wouldn’t mind if Rising wins but Powerslave is where I place my bets in the likely vain hope it’ll surpass Seventh Son. Speaking of which, Ride the Lightning has shot out of the gate as a surprise tour de force — never expected it to beat Painkiller, wtf — and I would vote for it if the final match was PS vs RTL. And I’ll sure as hell vote for it over an overrated Maiden album. It’s been a Maiden killer throughout this game, maybe it’ll come through now. Surprise me you bastards.

Rising is fine, and it sure took out a lot of Judas Priest albums, but I wouldn’t personally put it anywhere near the top of an all-time greatest metal albums list. It’s good, but it’s nowhere near that good. Powerslave, on the other hand, is the second-best record by one of the greatest metal bands of all time, and an excellent album in its own right. Sorry, The Shmoolissipotosrfyax Kieltfed Knicknight, but just like George Plimpton said about Intellivision in 1981, FTBidnightflashrfmatic Craapanollinfed Hickyn DrJ Jissie’s Jerooselman’s nominee is clearly superior. Winner: Iron Maiden

This second match would have really put me to the test if Master Of Puppets were standing here, but instead it’s its somewhat less impressive little brother Ride The Lightning, so this is much easier. Don’t get me wrong, Ride The Lightning is an excellent album — but Seventh Son is a superlative album, Iron Maiden’s finest hour, and truly one of the very best metal albums of all time. Congratusorrylations, The FlooseWhootun Porntaxianafed Micknightie’s Jerman, but Doctorniall MrKnickalaterjerkie’s Washrfmaticollun’s nominee just pulled the switch on your electric chair. Death is in the air, and yes, this most certainly can be happening to you. Winner: Iron Maiden

Okay, that's it. The Book of Souls has my favourite song of all time on it. RtL killed it.
Somewhere in Time was my favourite to win ever since the snake was stung by a B.E.E.
RtL killed it!
And now, the only Priest album I nominated, and my new favourite for this brief period of time?
Fucking. Ride. The. Lightning.

What, what do people see in it?! Has Trapped Under Ice finally gained recognition as a top tier thrash Metallica song? When did Escape transcend its filler status? Because it was such a big leap in terms of quality after KEA? You just feel bad for killing the vastly superior ...And Justice For All??

...

And now it's up against what we all knew from the start would win. And if not, it will face what we all will know will win! Because I struggle to see how the 3rd best Metallica album is seen as better than all the other Iron Maiden albums. Especially here!

Okay, rant over, hopefully for real this time. I'll vote for Rising because it's the only album left of my nominations.

Egypt...the chains are on,
Dio is the Pharaoh´s son
Eddie´s mummy rising brave
The stronger one is Powerslave

The bell tolls for Cliff, Lars, James and Kirk
Riding thunderbolts, Ktulu´s work
So let it be written, let it be done
The survivor is the Seventh Son
:applause:

My two favourite Maiden albums face two great challengers, but I can only concur with the above poetry and cast my vote in favor of an all-Maiden final.

Iron Maiden v Rainbow - Rising is a great album but it isn't as great as Powerslave. Not many albums have an epic to challenge Stargazer but Powerslave slaps it with a dead albatross. In fact, the title track takes it as well. They're actually similar albums in that both are finished off with two epics. If you pit the rest of each album against each other then Side A of Rising is really solid stuff, but again not anywhere near having stuff like 2 Minutes to Midnight and Aces High.

Iron Maiden with the win.

Metallica v Iron Maiden - SSOASS hasn't anything as weak as Escape and Trapped Under Ice. The Prophecy is only weak in comparison to the other songs on the album, in other company it would have gotten it's fair dues. Fight Fire with Fire has a terrible vocal melody and thinks it's heavy but get's kicked up and down by Moonchild. I don't get the hype of The Call of Ktulu, intro is decent enough but Musty made much better use of that chord progression in Hangar 18, and by the end of the track they just keep adding sections in an incoherent manner as if they don't know how to finish it. The rest of both albums, I can't even nitpick the tracks, all great.

Iron Maiden with the win
