GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Hammerfall and Boohwal are more pleasant to the ear

High on Fire was very loud and Dark Angel was just great thrash

Alcest win last round (kind of reminds me of Deafhaven)

I actually liked Burzum quite a bit from what I heard, but I also really like HammerFall. So I'll go with the non-murderer, but I'm interested in the next album which is much later on.
Ugh, Boohwal but I'm not happy about it.
I actually really enjoyed both of these more than I thought, but I will go with High on Fire.
Alcest 100%.

There’s no way I’m voting for Mr. Mumps, so it’s either Boohwal or abstention. For now it’s Boohwal.

My biggest problem with Black Metal. These vocals put me off every single time even when some riffing is good. Just sounds like u put a pig on fire and slam it against a trashcan with 1000 beats persecond

Your comparisons and assessment of comparisons is really off, mate.

Deafhaven and Alcest play the same genre, blackgaze. Combination of black metal and shoegazing. Me and Mosh mentioned Alcest as a better version of Deafhaven when the latter appeared in the game, there's nothing about the comparison that warrants a WTF.

So what I'm gathering from the Suffocation vs Boohwal match is nobody actually likes either band. Those voting for Boohwal are doing so because they can't stand listening to Suffocation, and those voting for Suffocation are doing so because they believe Boohwal don't belong here in a metal contest.

I like Suffocation.

What can I do, that's what I thought

Not being into either band, or aware of the minutiae of what constitutes what niche scene in the underground world of metal, I would have made the same comparison too. They both have that inoffensive mid tempo "first time house buyers" nicey nice clean groove sections.

Staying with my original vote, korean richard marx have no place in a metal competition in the same way that USA richard marx wouldn't be in it.

Incredible: not only did they ended up tied but now Suffocation is 4 points down...

Deafheaven were heavily influenced by Alcest
Yup. They mentioned it more than once... not only Alcest but all that scene.
Apparently not influenced nearly enough...
But I must concur that's where the similitude ends. I believe Deafheaven took the basics from that scene, and gave it their own twist. Both bands fall under the same genre (Avantgarde BM or Blackgaze), it's true. But so does Anthrax and Sabbat (Thrash Metal) and none of their albums are similar.

Maybe I dozed off, but I never heard anything like black metal vocals on that Alcest album. I would not associate it with black metal in any way at all. What am I missing?
