GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Opening track is a bit overexposed, but Lady of the lake?
Agreed it's the least good Dio Ranibow.

Horror show is better, but...Sometimes when two choices are near you start waging side factors.

And here I was thinking how controversial I'm going to be yet again for saying that of the three Dio albums, I like Long Live definitely the least. Heh.

That said - it's still Dio-Rainbow against Iced Earth, whose charm keeps on eluding me in general, so I'm voting for it anyway.

I always felt that Long Live was disappointing. Like it failed to build at all on the massive nature of Rising and instead decided to step back to radio friendly sounds. A huge unexplored space left derelict.
And here I was thinking how controversial I'm going to be yet again for saying that of the three Dio albums, I like Long Live definitely the least.
Gates of Babylon and Kill the King are the only two tracks that stand out to me, with the former being one of my favorites by them.

Nah, it isn't the worst Dio-Rainbow album. I agree Kill the King and Gates are "the" songs here but you're selling the others short.
Namely Lady of the Lake has a stellar vocal performance and The Shed is awesome. The title track sucks ass.

LA Connection is great too.

People are over thinking things if you're not fully enjoying an album because another album happens to be better.

Candlemass
Rainbow
Maiden ( Final Frontier probably bottom three Maiden album for me, but against Nightwish I have to vote for it)
Deth

If you asked me which album came first between Rising and Long Live, I would’ve said Long Live. I also would’ve added that while Long Live is firmly rooted in the blues based rock of the debut, you get moments like Gates of Babylon that hint at greater musical development.

Instead, the reality is that Rainbow took a major step back and songs like Gates of Babylon are remnants of what could’ve been with the evolution displayed on Rising. The straight rock isn’t quite as good as the debut either. Dio made the right decision to leave for Sabbath.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. It's good, it's fine, but it's not as good as the ST and it's nowhere near Rainbow in quality. It's fine that this is what Ritchie Blackmore wanted to do, but Rainbow could have been great.

That said, we got Heaven and Hell out of it, so all's well that ends well.

So much quality here.
Deeper, better albums that deserve to be here.

Surprised Fast as A Shark doesn’t get more love. That was a seminal song.

Comparing anything to Stargazer is unfair. Long Live isn’t as deep enough be an all-time album, but the first five tracks? The beauty of Lady of the Lake and the snarl of LA Connection, the energy of Kill the King? Gates of Babylon is an elite song.

I am a fan of HorROR Show

Gates of Babylon and Kill The King are in my top five Rainbow songs, they are as good or better than most of Rising. The rest of the album is fine to average.

Voted for Horror Show here out of pity cause I think it’s a much stronger overall album, but nothing on it comes close to the strength of those two Rainbow songs.

Candlemass makes a quick example of Accept. They've got one more album - you know which one - in League 2.
Rainbow out maneuvers Iced Earth like a Capitol policeman. We'll see them again in a second.
Iron Maiden smashes Nightwish. They have one last chance coming up in Match 27.
Megadeth brushes off Symphony X, who are kicking around in two other streams currently.
