This one I can vote in right away.

As I Lay Dying is absolutely not my thing, it's very derivative and not very fun. It's everything I dislike about the 90s with some metalcore (that I also generally dislike) slapped on top. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath is running a very underrated album, and the sample song is about fuckin' Nightwing, 20 years before comic books were cool.

Opeth has never resonated with me, especially not their debut, and this is no different, whereas Dethklok, while a parody band, has put together some fun death metal and is a loving tribute to the genre and heavy metal in general. I think Dethalbum II is actually their weakest effort, but still pretty awesome. I don't expect it to beat Opeth though.

Look, I like Blaze as much as the next guy (more than the next guy if the next guy is Jer). But it's up against one of my picks. Iced Earth.

I tried to get into Moonsorrow, it's been recommended by @Perun enough, but I just can't. It's long and doomy and dark and a lot of things that don't work for me. Symphony X does, and while the example song isn't my favourite, the album is a pretty damn great album.

As I Lay Dying was quite ok until that singer opened his mouth.
I prefer Tony Martin era Black Sabbath.

Never heard Dethklok before and after listening to this song I probably never will ever again. :)
Opeth with the easy win.

Not familiar with this Blaze Bayley album but after hearing the song I have to check it out asap.
I like it much more than Iced Earth.

Moonsorrow didn't grab me as much as the superb Symphony X album. A true classic!

As I Lay Dying - Drummer trying to steal focus with the double bass, otherwise some of the music is ok but the vocals are not

Black Sabbath - moody intro sounds good, vocal strong, riffs and solo classy as always

Black Sabbath with the win

Deathklok - I've no interest in this

Opeth - opinion given before

Opeth with the win

Blaze - I never checked out anything after that Dimebag song so haven't heard this album, the band sound ok on this, Balze!!11 hasn't got a great voice but he makes the most of it, it sounds quite like something off Silicon Messiah just not produced as well or played by as good musicians

Iced Earth - Intro decent, vocal real hammy

Blaze with the win

Moonsorrow - Intro not bad musically but sounds badly produced, vocals bad, there's some nice melody buried real low in the mix, change to the renaissance bass riff is good, again you'ld just love to lower down the rhythm guitar as it's so overpowering,

Symphony X - vocal while technically competent the delivery is like Andrew Lloyd Weber, guitar ok, piano verse is preposterous

Moonsorrow with the win

Just something random since Iced Earth are going up against Blaze — anyone ever notice the similarities between Eagle Spirit from IE3 and Prophecy SWTWC? The first time I heard them I was struck by that, also particularly due to the fact that they’re both parts of a story.

Easy round.

As I Lay Dying can’t figure out if they’re trying to be Metallica, Maiden, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, or a random death metal band — they just go around in derivative circles trying on each sound for a while. The music is decent but wholly unoriginal, and the main vocals are shit. The occasional clean vocals are OK but not great, and serve as an insufficient apology for everything else. Meanwhile, Headless Cross is a great album with great performances. Sorry, @Travis The Dragon, but @Forostar ‘s nominee is the clear winner here. Winner: Black Sabbath

I found Dethklok’s vocals to be less annoying than Opeth’s, but the songwriting was really lacking, and I think I’m not the target audience for the humor elements. Sorry, @Spambot, but @Forostar takes this one as well. Winner: Opeth

Blaze has chronic phrasing problems, and even though he’s become better about staying on key over time, something weird has come out in the timbre of his voice as a result. All of that said, the story concept underpinning Infinite Entanglement and its follow-ups brought some renewed focus for Blaze’s songwriting, and he turned out some pretty good material here. Iced Earth has some nice guitar bits, but the singer isn’t to my taste at all, and the songwriting is almost completely unmemorable. Sorry, @LooseCannon, but @Shmoolikipod ’s nominee wins out here. Winner: Blaze Bayley

This Moonsorrow album isn’t too bad for black metal. The music is pretty good, and the vocals are bad, but not the worst. The production is awful, of course. Not my thing, really. Symphony X, while still a bit overrated, scratches that neoclassical itch and is much more up my alley. Sorry, @Perun, but @Lampwick 43 ’s choice is more to my taste. Winner: Symphony X
