Game Of Thrones

Meh, I thought Battle Of The Bastards was fun af.
I don't understand how this is even possible. The level of plot armour on Jon is absolutely ridiculous.
1) Jon is caught at the apex of two cavalry charges, and is completely unharmed, despite that fact that both cavalry forces were shown as charging forward shoulder to shoulder.
2) Jon fights through a massive melee without being wounded, despite being surrounded and outnumbered.
3) Ramsay orders a volley of arrows. Jon lies down - he doesn't even curl up into a ball - and the arrows literally skewer the entire ground around him, with...literally 31 arrows hitting the ground around him and none hitting.
4) Jon gets crushed under what is portrayed as dozens of people stampeding over him. Not only does he survive this, he is completely unharmed, as evidenced by the fact that he gets up and kills Smalljon Umber immediately thereafter.
5) When the Knights of the Vale arrive in an absolute deus ex machina, they charge perfectly and somehow know who to kill and who not to kill, despite nobody inside the pocket having banners.
6) Jon has exactly zero wounds, he doesn't even limp afterwards. Also, he just watches Wun Wun die and Ramsay could have shot Jon, but he chose not to.
7) Ramsay shoots Jon 3x with arrows. Jon is fast enough to block them with a shield, but the shield is thin enough to be fully pierced by the arrow. Which means it would keep going through.

It's patently ridiculous, completely unimmersive, and only shows the contempt the screenwriters had for their audience.

Dany attacks the Lannister army on the Gold Road (fast travels the entire Dothraki there, but hey fast traveling at this point is fully enabled). Fair.

But then she burns all the food.

The food that like 3 scenes previously she explains she needs.

To feed the Dothraki.

Who are at the battle.

This is pants on head dumb.

Yeah, but, in defense of the writers: it looked cool!

The Magnificent Seven plotline north of the wall is really, really dumb. "Let's go get a zombie to prove to Cersei that zombies are real! Let's also send 7 named characters to do it!"

I will admit the bonding scenes while walking was fun, but they really just grabbed any named characters they could think of. "We haven't used Beric or Thoros or Gendry in awhile, go grab them. Oh, get the Hound out of retirement, too, people love the Hound!" I also love the Hound, and he's the best character here, because Rory McCann just drips raw charisma.

They catch their zombie and then get surrounded on a lake by an army of other zombies. These zombies just chill for awhile, it's cool. Meanwhile, Gendry runs all the way back to the wall and sends a raven to Dany. The raven goes from Eastwatch-by-the-Sea to fucking Dragonstone and then Dany has to come back, in the span of what appears to one day, max. It is between 1000 and 1800 miles from Eastwatch to Dragonstone. Ravens fly at 50 mph max, which means the raven could make it to Eastwatch in, bare minimum, 20 hours, assuming it didn't need to rest or sleep.

Jon Snow survives being soaked in water in an arctic climate. A dragon dies in the least dramatic way possible, and hands the bad guys what they need to get through the wall. Which means that if they had done literally nothing, they would have been safe.

So fucking stupid.

That's Greek tradgedy 101

Martin is already getting a TON of crap online for missing his august 1st deadline on Winds of Winter. I definitely agree with you guys in that it looks like he lost interest and is being forced to follow through and is just dragging his feet.
