I don't care what anyone says, this song is awesome. I suppose I can understand that people were wary when they heard it in the early 90s, not knowing where Maiden will end up and being worried that they are going the wrong direction. Now, with the knowledge of how things turned out, it's easy to appreciate the song for what it is, instead of judging it by which expectations it failed to meet. There's a ton to love here.
We start with a rather unique intro and I absolutely adore the modal interchange, I'm a sucker for stuff like that. The verse and chorus double down on these ideas and we have this constant back and forth. The gang shouts are a bit goofy and the lyrics aren't a masterpiece by any measure, but they're at least better than Hooks In You.
It's a shame that I never got to hear the song live, because it is perfectly tailored for concerts. The live albums we got show as much. After the second chorus we get the intro riff again, playing a bit more with dynamics before launching into a furious first solo, followed by a more melodic second solo. The main motif heard in the little solo over the intro and the pre-solo riff is super catchy. Really enjoying the little lead runs over the last chorus as well. The drawn out rock'n'roll ending with the elongated vocal lines and a final solo is the perfect fit for this song. Another great song, another 8.
