they are all really good. ok, janic isnt as good technically as the others (although wasting love solo is awesome), but he is the most exciting of the three to watch on stage. adrian is note perfect, and dave, well, you dont need to say anything about dave, just watch and listen to him play.

urgh, its impossible to choose

No one can twiddle like Dave can twiddle........ ( you know, those little hammer on's that has become his trademark)......... [!--emo&--]/bowdown.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'bowdown.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

dave murray to the max! i constantly have to drill it into my friend's head why he is the master of the guitar! he may not be the flashiest or the most technically efficient, but you listen to him on "Strange World" and tell me that just doesnt chop you limb from limb, beat each indivdual body part into a pulp and put you back together again? Don't get me wrong they call can write great stuff and play great, but Dave can go from playing the softest, most beautiful things you'll hear, and the next minute he's playing like a soul possessed....and...he's the only one who didnt leave maiden! (excluding when he did in the 70's) i'm going to go off topic right here..but i read a post and i just have to ask

how can you guys just listen to who solos? i am always keeping my ears focused on someone, like on brave new world, i constantly try to figure out which one is janick and which one is adrian, since I know unlike other bands *coughcoughICEDEARTHcoughcoughcough* all maiden guitarists play all the rhythms, not just one guitarist *coughcoughSCHAFFERcoughcough* playing the rhythms and the lead doing only leads...but yeah, i am cursed with some sort of wandering ear! I'm gonna come out in Jon Schaffer's defense here. The guy knows he can't solo like Davey or H. Not everyone can. So maybe he doesn't play anything more than rhythm guitar. It still doesn't mean that it's bad music. If anything, it would be worse if he was butchering solos on albums and the like. Why ruin a song when you can just find a guy who can do it?

Just my opinion, but I feel Dave and Adrian are such a great team, I'd have a hard time selecting one over the other.. To me, it isn't Maiden without both of them..

But if I had a gun to my head and HAD to pick one, I'd choose Dave.. no ADRIAN!!! Wait.. Definitely Dave.. HOLD ON!!!!

CRAP!!!!

You think Adrian's songwriting skills are bad? He wrote some of maiden's best songs.

I like Janick for 2 basic reasons:

He has mroe onstage energy than the other two, so he seems to fit with Bruce and Steve better IMHO.

And secondly, I like his name.

there all great i love them all but i prefer daves style [!--emo&--]/blink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I like D Murray.

his solos are so melodic I can even sing them all [!--emo&--]/wub.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wub.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

All Obviously Really Talented Guitarists

Id Rate Them

Murray Then Smith Then Gers....But At Their Best When Murray And Smith Were The Duo....Great With 3 As We See In Dance Of Death

Janick never left, he joined late and stayed with it, even when Adrian returned.
Steve never left, if he did Maiden wouldn't be.
Nicko never left, he joined 3 albums late, but he's been there ever since.

Dave is my favourite player when it comes to technical skills. Very fluid.
Adrian when it comes to emotional parts (Stranger in a Strange Land and the melodic part within Sea of Madness)
Janick when it comes to songwriting, rawness and stage presence

Difficuly choice.

For me:

Janick has the spontanity
Adrian has the coolest/heaviest sound (rhythm guitars that is)
Dave has the best solos.

edited: Dave has the best executed solos, while playing live I meant,

I'll vote for Dave since I tend to agree a lot with the first post of this rant.

I choose H because he has great technical control, with a stylish aggressive crunch but also with a lot of emotion.
Best solos: Paschendale, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, Stranger In A Strange Land, Wasted Years, Caught Somewhere In Time and Revelations.

I think H, he is melodically the best of the 3, though the other 2 are great too [!--emo&--]/bowdown.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'bowdown.gif\' /][!--endemo--] To all Maiden Guitarists!
But! One question... Wich solo on Paschendale is H's? I tend to think the third, but I'm not sure, really...

its the 2nd one. the 3rd is janick's. there are some simple guidelines to tell them apart:
dave is very fluid-sounding and often plays very fast, but all his notes seem to flow together. hes a very bluesy-type player also.

adrian is very melodic but doesnt always play super-fast like davey; sometimes he plays with a "slowhand" motion. he also plays with alot of feeling, and his guitar sound is very raw.

janick often plays very fast just like dave, but unlike him his notes dont always flow together. he basically 'shreds' alot, sometimes sounding like he is trying to play as fast as he can, which sometimes works to his advantage, especially when combined with other techniques (this is more apparent in maiden's newer stuff) but sometimes it can make his solos sound pretty bad (some solos on NPFTD are mediocre, also tends to do this live at times). he is very experimental.

of course theres more to each guitarist then just that, but thats pretty much it in a nutshell and applies for a good majority of maiden solos.

All the solo information you need can be found on the [a href=\'http://www.maidenfans.com/imc\' target=\'_blank\']Iron Maiden Commentary[/a].

(Oh no [!--emo&--]/blush.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blush.gif\' /][!--endemo--] I must confess to something. I actually voted in this poll without ever explaining myself. Can't remember when and why I did that.)

[!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--] As much as I enjoy Dave's smoothness and feeling, as well as his "solo face" (quote LC), I prefer Adrian.
Short and simple, his solos make me shiver. A thing like that cannot really be explained I guess. I also like Adrian's laid back stance and the occasional aloof expression.
