awfull, it's true!Onhell said:and that piece of shit called When the Eagle Cries.
thank godOnhell said:Maiden doesn't have a single "Go UK' or " Go England" song.
I have argued this before when people write about Maiden having songs patriotic to England (the last.fm bio for Maiden is a case in point). So name one, I say and they can't - then they sort of um and ah about Aces High!Onhell said:Aside from waving the Union Jack in concerts there is nothing "patriotic" about Maiden's Music. Iced Earth on the other hand has blatant "I love America" songs like the Ghost of Freedom and that piece of shit called When the Eagle Cries. Maiden doesn't have a single "Go UK' or " Go England" song.

Remember the Ozzfest thing? I do, because I was talking about at work today with a truck driver who saw my awesome Piece Of Mind shirt and started talking Maiden with me. And as I recall it, they were playing "The Trooper", with Bruce waving the Union Jack and all that, when Sharon Osbourne cut the power, and when it came back Bruce yelled "these colours don't run". (I had to debate the spelling on that one, because on the one hand he's English which means he spells 'colors' wrong, but on the other hand he was in the US where we spell 'colors' right.)
And we all know that from there, it was a predetermined fact that Maiden would record a song with that title. But because of the Ozzfest Trooper thing, that song is forever associated with an Englishman waving the Union Jack. Plus the song mentions something about fighting for your country, and since Bruce is English that country would have to be England.
So there's one "go fight and die for your country, which is England" song for you.
If I had a point, I've forgotten what it was.

Perun said:Although you're correct in regards to the background, the very first line of that song already makes every specific patriotic interpretation impossible:
It's the same in every country...
