I'm very surprised to hear any 'British troops' - as reported this morning - have savings of more than £80k. Rank and file soldiers are very poorly paid, I seriously doubt any of them have savings of this amount. So the people being compensated directly out of the British taxpayer's pocket are highly-paid officers or ex officers, tax--dodge investors and people who don't live in the UK and don't pay any tax into the system.
