European Politics

Miliband blamed Scottish nationalism for Labour's poor performance. But then he wasn't likely to admit that Labour is just a poor prospect to vote for.

True, it is interesting seeing these concession speeches. They differ greatly from the US where the speech is always

1) We fought a good fight/thanks supports
2) We will keep up a fight
3) But then end on reconciliation ... wish the new President (whatever) luck, will work with him as much as possible.

I saw a lot of the first 2, but none of the third

With PR we'd have had a Conservative/UKIP coalition.

Not saying I agree with it ... just thought it interesting. The system is the system ... everyone knew this was the deal going in. But I would not change it or not not change it because of the results of one election or a like/dislike for a certain party

There has already been protests outside Downing Street from people who want the Tories out already. Obviously these people don't understand how democracy works.

I may or may not approve of the Conservative majority, but I would never protest the will of the people. The method by which the people are selected? Sure.

LOL ... they meant for the tank t stall for 15 minutes.

MOSCOW — A state-of-the-art Russian tank, which was shown to the public for the first time earlier this month, on Thursday ground to a halt during the final Victory Day rehearsal.

The tank, the T-14 Armata, is said to surpass all Western versions because of its remotely controlled cannon and the protection it offers its crew. The T-14, which replaces the T-72 and T-90, is set to undergo trials next year.

Weaponry was rolling across central Moscow on Thursday morning in the dress rehearsal for the military parade on Red Square on May 9 as Russia commemorates the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

One of eight T-14s suddenly stopped while others drove on. The engine was still rumbling but it wouldn’t move. After an attempt to tow it failed, the T-14 rolled away under its own steam about 15 minutes later.

While the tank was stranded on the cobbled Red Square, the presenter commenting over the PA system said it was part of the training to “evacuate weaponry” and had been planned.

The tank’s producer insisted that the T-14 did not break down.

Alexei Zharich, deputy general director of the Uralvagonzavod factory, said on Twitter that the military was responsible for the way the rehearsal was held but insisted that the tank “was functioning properly and left on its own power.”

Watching a speech by Heinrich August Winkler in the Bundestag on the 70th Anniversary of VE Day ... very interesting and comprehensive. C-SPAN is showing it in the US
