Ed Hunter

Decent developer with today’s tech could make a very decent maiden themed game these days. Image a game like brutal legend where you control Eddie, very cool.
Or, hear me out, you play as various members of IM having to battle all the different Eddie's (who have been brought to life as a result of a voodoo ritual).

Each member has his own style of combat. Janick has the spin attack, Steve has the machine gun bass, Bruce fences etc.

There's also bonus levels where Bruce flies a Spitfire or is a tailgunner.

Impressive! That is called passion.
Maybe I would have done better now when I'm 20 years older, but I'll never want to use the precious time on this 8th grade game again

Those are some hours of my life that I will never get back!

For what is worth, I did not even bother downloading the Legacy of the Beast game, so I have redeemed myself.

It’s not like you missed out on something:confused: it was a typical mobile game with pay to win crap. I tried it out a few times over a week, but no this is not anything for someone who pushes 40 now

The fans (even back then) to like songs with a classic Maiden approach (fast, anthemic, melodic) like Futureal and Man On The Edge should not be surprising to Steve. And both were singles and tour openers.

I guess so.

The game was cool for its time.
If you enjoyed it, cool. But technically it really was not great for its time. Even by 1998 the game had seriously outdated graphics and gameplay. By then, we already had games like Half Life or System Shock, which wiped the floor floor with Ed Hunter. Even the 6 years older Doom had better mechanics and deeper gameplay. Ed Hunter would have been ok on an arcade console in 1992. On a PC in 1998 it was pathetic to be honest.

Franchise licensed games are rarely good. There was an avalanche of movie related video games especially in the 90s, almost every blockbuster had an according video game. They often sold relatively well while getting horrible reviews. I guess Rod Smallwood saw the financial potential in this, and as Maiden weren't getting much press in those times, he thought this would be a good way to get some headlines.
Unfortunately he did not have any clue about gaming, and neither did the band. So the result was piss poor.

Now imagine Melt being so bad it makes Ed Hunter look like a banger :D
I wonder what that must have been. Pong with Eddie?

Say what you will about crappy Maiden games, at least they inspired two of the best tours they have ever done.
In terms of setlists yes. That was one of the best, to bad they haven't done a live album from that tour yet. Preferably from one of the shows that had Stranger in a Strange Land in it. But wasn't Ed Huntour basically the Virtual XI stage set?

Not really. Both Eddies were different, especially the large one. They were more like on the Futureal single. They were pretty bad, honestly, but the setlist on the Ed Huntour was fucking awesome, especially at that time. I was at the Hamburg show, it was pretty great. Megadeth opened, it was one of their last gigs with Marty Friedman. Unfortunately it was also the last time for me to see them with Dave Ellefson.
Maiden were truly on fire that night. They played Stranger In A Strange Land that night.
