The other thing I noticed is that this setlist seems to cater pretty heavily to James. A lot of ballads, quite a bit of instrumental breaks in the second set (including DT's longest instrumental and a few songs that are probably mostly instrumental). With the exception of Under a Glass Moon, that whole second set gives James a lot of breaks and plenty of lower intensity vocal moments. First set, same thing. If he's struggling to pull off a friendlier set of songs that also includes most of their biggest hits, that's a bit concerning to say the least. We'll see where the rest of the tour goes.

My first thought was how easy this set should be for him.

Horrible news!
No clue how Mike was able to play that show.
I would have been a wreck

Paris show to be filmed and recorded for a Blu Ray/DVD/double CD release next year.

If any of you watched any footage from shows after the London gig you'd know that he's doing really well at the moment.
LaBrie “doing really well” at this stage is still unbelievably below par for a recorded release.
Yea, I mean I wouldn’t characterize his performances as “doing very well.” I know there are also people here who saw shows and weren’t impressed. I’m a frequent JLB defender but I would say that it has gotten to a point where his vocal difficulties are putting limitations on what the band can do. Kinda think this ends up being their last evening with tour and probably one of the last tours overall. This is as JLB-friendly as a setlist gets too. Not to mention the amount of time off he’s had to train his voice and prepare for this…

I’ll be curious about overdubs. MP obviously was never afraid to release live albums with embarrassingly poor vocal performances, but their live releases have become a bit more polished since then. Still, there are songs where he would basically need to redo the whole thing so idk.

First of all, Night Terror’s a good song. I wasn’t convinced on the first listen as it seemed pretty formulaic at first and the epic Petrucci melody towards the end felt like it was tagged in there forcefully. BUT a couple more listens in I dig the song a lot. It’s well-structured, interesting and has a nice, memorable chorus, with a welcome emphasis on Portnoy.

Secondly, I’ve been trying to fall asleep for three hours, so I picked up my phone and started scrolling Facebook and apparently DT are coming to Estonia on June 27th to play at the Tallinn Rockfestival which is happening for the first time. I thought it was a fake ad at first. Tallinn isn’t even listed on DT’s homepage yet. But it seems for real, there’s an official article written about it a couple of hours ago. Bizarre way to find out DT are coming here.
