Playing the whole 12 Step Suite makes the set way too MP heavy imo. It also just limits what they can do with setlist rotation and guarantees almost nothing else from those albums will be played on the tour. Just too limiting overall.
But MP has said the setlist will likely be static, so maybe those songs WILL be the representatives of their respective albums.Playing the whole 12 Step Suite makes the set way too MP heavy imo. Really? Dang that’s news to me. Last I heard there was talk of rotating setlists coming back. In that case I am less convinced that they would do 12 Step Suite at any point as I feel that would be too narrow of a focus for a 40th anniversary setlist. Although to be fair it's not as narrow as celebrating your 50th anniversary while excluding 8 albums. But MP has said the setlist will likely be static, so maybe those songs WILL be the representatives of their respective albums.
My take on the 12 Step Suite is that it makes sense as something the band would likely want to do. I know it's "MP's thing" but a lot of those riffs and melodies were written by JP/JR so I have to assume they have more of an investment in playing it live than the fans sometimes give them credit for. But on a logistical level it just seems really tough. It doesn't feel appropriate for this tour, but then presumably the next tour will be playing material focused on the new album. And then what? I don't really feel like DT has much longer than Maiden does at this point so I feel like the clock is working against them in this area and they may want to sunset their career focusing on other things. That's just a hunch though.I agree with this, at least for this tour. However I think we're getting 12-Step live one of these days, not sure how (if it's going to be a part of the set or a one-off thing, like their "thematic" concerts - the entire TNOTB or Master live etc.), but it would feel like a missed opportunity otherwise.
The radio edit might be better for you then. I thought it worked really well too. After first 3 listens it didn't grab me yet, but I expect it will grow. I like the musical parts on their own, many cool ideas, just doesn't give a cohesive song vibe .... yet?
A View was a very average and forgettable album, this new song immediately feels easier to grasp imo. A big improvement in the vocal department too, I think this is the strongest James has sounded since The Astonishing.Pleasantly surprised by the new single, and I probably like it more than the material from the previous two albums.
I'm with you there. I'm a big fan of The Offspring too and that album kicks ass. I think these two new releases balance each other out nicely lol.I am enjoying the new Offspring album. It’s full of loads of good hooks and poppy songs. I know that I can’t compare the musicality of both bands, but the darkness and length on the new single was too much for me this morning. I just wanted shorter songs!
