You gotta be kidding me! John Petrucci - 26%, Mick Thomson 12% (who the fuck is this guy?!), Tony Iommi - 5%, Dave Murray - 3%. These kids, today...

Tony Iommi should be hors concurs from these polls - He's the eternal master of Heavy Rock/Metal, undisputably. I'll always vote for him in any best metal guitarrist polls and pretty much any best guitarrists polls.
 
Yeah, and a Slipnkot guy is above everyone but Petrucchi.

Terrible poll. Where the fuck is Adrian Smith ? James Hetfield is there but no Dave Mustaine ? A Slipknot guitarist ? A System of a Down guitarist ? Holy hell.

In terms of overall technical ability, influence and crafting his own sound. murray is the best.

Let me help resolve the mystery - this poll has been posted about at Dream Theater Forums for a couple of days (at least). That's a big forum - hundreds of members posting daily. They've been flooding the poll.

I voted Iommi. There is no metal without Iommi. He owns everyone else. Permanent #1. Just like how the US passed a law that no US military officer can ever outrank George Washington.
 
I'm not voting but if I did, I would honestly vote Petrucci. I like Dave but I think John I like John more.

I assume he is not on the list, but I would actually pick Nuno Bettencourt.  :innocent:

Yes although murray is technically better than iommi. tony iommi is the greatest innovator of heavy metal. I do prefer murays sound though and because of thss vote for him. iommi would be a very cloe 2nd. joke of a poll anyway
