Ah, fixing setlists! I join. With keeping the basic structure from what they were, but including several songs that should have made the set more interesting and that are... um, not realistic, but not 100% out of this world either.
Maiden England (
could/should have been there or just an unrealistic pick /
interesting and relatively realistic alternative)
1. Moonchild
2. Can I Play With Madness
3. The Prisoner
4.
Stranger in a Strange Land /
Die With Your Boots On
5.
Infinite Dreams (it was rehearsed, so...)
6. The Trooper
7. Phantom of the Opera (was played and worked very well; was also a part of Somewhere on Tour set, so it's kinda link to that period as well... kinda)
8. The Number of the Beast
9.
Still Life (didn't have too high hopes for this back then, but this was definitely something they COULD have brought up considering that it's on the original video and the band likes POM a lot) /
Afraid to Shoot Strangers; was played and since we didn't get Infinite Dreams, this one was far from being a bad substitute; it's a great song and deserved to be played with the current line-up was well. The sad omission of Infinite Dreams and the disappointment that followed actually often overshadows the fact that hearing ATSS live was absolutely awesome and I'd welcome it back to the set any day.
10. Wasted Years
11. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
12. The Clairvoyant
13.
Only the Good Die Young (not playing this one live is still one of the setlist omissions in '88 and obviously onwards) / ...but yeah, Fear of the Dark it is.
14. Iron Maiden
--
15. Aces High /
Be Quick or be Dead
16. The Evil That Men Do
17. Running Free /
Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter
Since they played ATSS and FOTD (obvious, but anyway) and I listed the former as an interesting alternative to the daydream Maiden England set as well, visiting early 90's a bit more would not have been a bad idea at all. But as it was, 80's theme does sell better and I understand why they went with it. Just saying that including those three songs (+obligatory FOTD), even without the mentioned 80's gems Still Life and SIASL, would have created an excellent mini-coverage of early 90's without taking the focus out from the golden eighties too much; that's why I placed TETMD in the encore rather than switching it with the position 9, as cool as 90's only encore would have been. Anyway, with these relatively small changes they would have re-discovered the late 80's and early 90's during one tour more than they have done with SIT since it's original tour. That's pretty awesome and sad at the same time...
Instead of smudging Legacy of the Beast tour thread, I've decided to post this here. Rules are pretty simple:
1. Choose one song per album (not including Iron Maiden and Fear of the Dark, those are already taken)
2. All albums must me included
3. Setlist shouldn't be longer than 1h 35 min
4. Only songs that have been played live at somepoint in their career for at least 30 times.
I guess it is time to give this concept a try as well!
The challenge is that I'm a big fan of many mid-tempo songs and longer songs when it comes to picking favourites from the albums, so we shall see how this one turns out...
1. Aces High (
Powerslave) 4:31
2. Public Enema Number One (
No Prayer for the Dying) 4:03
3. Killers (
Killers) 4:58
4. Stranger in a Strange Land (
Somewhere in Time) 5:43
5. Lord of the Flies (
The X-Factor) 5:04
6. Coming Home (
The Final Frontier) 5:52
7. Paschendale (
Dance of Death) 8:27
8. Futureal (
Virtual XI) 3:00
9. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (
A Matter of Life and Death) 8:44
10. Tears of a Clown (
The Book of Souls) 4:59
11. Infinite Dreams (
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) 6:08
12. Fear of the Dark (
Fear of the Dark) 7:16
13. Iron Maiden (
Iron Maiden) 6:05
14. The Prisoner (
The Number of the Beast) 5:34
15. Revelations (
Piece of Mind) 6:51
16. Brave New World (
Brave New World) 6:18
The first version was awkwardly
1:37:02...
So TBOS contender changed from
If Eternity Should Fail (which was the first encore, would be pretty awesome with that intro and all!) into
Tears of a Clown, which took the position #10 from
The Prisoner which moved later on to open the encores.
Now it's
1:33:33, if I did the math correctly.
