Can heavy metal singers actually sing?

I only mean that people who don't bost about having invitations can also be great singers. :)

I admire Tate's old deliveries a lot, but he can't hit the high notes anymore, unfortunately.

Neither can Kiske. Both singers lost their '80s and '90s aura.

Have you heard a recent performance in which Kiske showed this? I haven't.
Have you heard a recent performance in which Tate showed this? I have. Not even that recent. 10 ago his smoked throat showed the failures already.

I think Tate did very well on their latest dvd, Mindcrime at the Moore. Not as good as on Livecrime of course, but still excellent.

And gotcha on your previous post.

Haven't seen that DVD yet. I admit I lost some interest for Queensryche but you can wake me up any hour of the night with their first EP.

You can't expect from a singer to have same power and range in his 20s and his 50s.

I beg to differ... greatly.

Kiske is slightly better.

Kiske is in his 40s, a period in which Bruce was at his best.

When Kiske sounded better and more energetic? In his 20s or now? Check out "The Chance" live in Osaka '92 and tell me what you think.

Or Bruce? I mean, he is in great shape right now, but he was in much better shape 25 years ago.

I thought Bruce was very good when he did Brave New World (age: 41) and Rock in Rio (age: 42).
Kiske is 42 now, and by comparing with Bruce I wanted to show that people can still be great around that age.

I am not sure if Kiske can still do The Chance the way he did in the past. Maybe he can.

His stints in Avantasia show he can still belt it. Can he do The Chance or Eagle Fly Free? Possibly. THAT I'd like to listen to.

Check out Where Eagles Dare in Hammersmith '83 if you haven't before and tell me what you think (full voiced F#5's), listen to Gangland - B5 (his highest note ever in studio), a G#5 scream in Flight Of Icarus, he was 24-25 years old. Don't get me wrong - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Rock In Rio) - F5, Benjamin Breeg - B4. My point is - Bruce is very good today, but he was at his best in '82 - '83.

Heavy metal singers CAN sing. What is that supposed to mean anyway? Can they actually sing??... Of course!

This chick is lame. Just another one of these opera singers using 500 year old techniques and think they know every fucking thing. If you want to hear a real professional's analysis on these guys....I think you should hear what a MODERN vocal coach will say. Here's a list of them in case you're interested:

Jaime Vendera
Robert Lunte
Kevin Richards
James Lugo

Honestly, .these opera singers are the worst people to go to if you're into metal. They can't even do what Halford, Dickinson, etc. can.

The highest note I hit was a B5 in head voice :)  Not impressive, but I'm still working on improving.

Bruce is a BEAST!

That's actually extremely impressive seeing as Bruce hit that note in falsetto. Same with Rob Halford and even Dio I believe.

Halford is most likely to hit those high notes in reinforced falsetto because he uses it a lot, but Bruce and Dio I think are in full voice. :)
I could be wrong though...

It's falsetto for sure. It's too thin to be full.

And Dio's was a backup vocal, so I guess I'd need legit technology to figure that out, but I'm pretty sure it's falsetto because his voice sounds lower-placed than Bruce and Rob, so it'd be harder for him to hit that note in full.

Oh alright. It must be reinforced then...or as they like to call it, "pharyngeal". I'm gonna have a listen :)
