Yes, which is why I didn't compare those two despite releasing the same year. AoB vs. VXI at least has some semblance of fairness to it since there's tracks that aren't very highly rated on the former, while TCW has what, Machine Men? And even that's not a crap song, just not up to par with the rest if you ask me.
My only criticism of AOB is the steel pipe in Starchildren. It ruins the song for me.

Let's do a "weed out the weak" of each Bruce solo album. You pick what's your least favourite song.
- Zulu Lulu
- Fire
- Headswitch
- Welcome To The Pit
- Killing Floor
- Believil
- Fingers In The Wounds

1. Zulu Lulu or Lickin the Gun
2. Gods of War (I have a hard time with that one, its a bit to much with the vocals)
3. I actually cant say on Skunkworks, I dont know the album that well. It never clicked with me
4. Love Accident of Birth and dont dislike any song, but The Magician is kinda meh
5. Chemical Wedding is pretty much a perfect album imo but Killing Floor is the weakest on the record
6. Believil
7. Fingers in the Wounds

Listened to More Balls to Picasso on Spotify.

Inclined to agree with SRFC, Roy Z had made a mediocre album sound very nice indeed. But most of the songs are still evidently mediocre. It is indeed in the songs.

I don't like it at all either and I don't think it was necessary. Speaking of it and Freak (btw, the different cool verses could have been a chorus), I wish they had much stronger instrumental sections.

Regarding the weak songs from all albums, it's hard for me to say from TMP, it seems it's a consistent album. Maybe I have to go with a song for which I miss something like Resurrection Men. Or Rain. The others are: Gun, Clowns, Truth, Pit, Floor, Believil.

1. Zulu Lulu
2. Fire
3. Headswitch
4. Toltec 7 Arrival (Kinda cheating I suppose)
5. Machine Men
6. Believil
7. Resurrection Men

Also, y'all are crazy. Welcome to the Pit is one of the best songs on that album :P
I like Welcome to the Pit as well, but to me it's the one that leaves the least impression. It has been growing on me in recent years, though.

And yes, Toltec 7 Arrival is 100% cheating. :nonono:

I gave it a listen and it reminds me of those "remakes" of classic songs they use in movie trailers sometimes. When it's basically the songs with loud bangs here and there and some orchestral hype added. Well, that's just a half-serious comparison, but overall this release is a mixed bag, some additions work nice, others are way too much. I think the album would benefit enough from just a new mix.
Like this for instance?

Now the tour is over Bruce's focus will be on his solo tour. Bet he is looking forward to seeing Tanya again.....

She has already influenced him. He made a remark about animal rights in Gelsenkirchen. It was a joke in connection with the albatross, but still...
(Just in case not everybody knows: Tanya supports veganism.)

I now see “Sonata” as a bit of a bonus song too, which is funny because I had such high expectations of it beforehand, based on what Bruce had said about it.
If only Sonata was a B-Side. I'm quite sure Bruce and Roy had other songs rolling around in a drawer somewhere that would've made for a much stronger finish to the album. I blame Leana.

The real bonus song is Eternity. Come to think of it, the album could have been without it and Sonata - and those two, along with Shadow and maybe Resurrection Men, are the songs with the biggest impression from the album for most fans. So it was a good move for the album's success. Better songs, probably, the same emotion, that's not that easy. IIRC, Bruce said that Shadow is a better closer than Sonata, both unique in their feel and structure.

With the amount of the written material, he could have easily putted more songs to the album (2 more - one fast and one TCW-like), and a bonus one too (he should have done it after all these years), but I guess he wanted to save some songs for the next album and maybe followed the concept of the story in some way. He probably felt that the album's backbone was there, and Eternity is definitely part of. I'm very grateful that a version of the song with solos exists, but it will always be more of a Maiden song for me, probably because it was released first as such. Sonata and Rain could have been bonus songs, especially in some of his other albums.

I'm really curious if they'll try Sonata live, it could change some opinions. It's a too specific song, so I'm not sure if he has to play it.

I think almost all songs from Psycho Motel's 1997 album are better than it. Fitting for AOB is another question. Definitely the song with the least impression from this great album.
