British Lion 2013 Tour

Most of the chat was obviously in the Steve thread (--rather than in this tour thread.) Looking back I'm not sure who was actually that critical (you, Forostar, were immensely critical of one particular passage in one of the songs, if you recall? :p); more "not my taste" comments. My own initial thoughts were: "The vocals are, well, what I thought; not too distracting, but not really to my taste. A bit whinny, but he can sing well enough." --enthusiastic, wasn't I? Broadly speaking, I haven't really changed my opinion I don't suppose. Like most vocals, for me anyway, once you get past the style & any actual tuneless/pitch issues, the lyrics themselves become the focus. And BL is all damn right!

Wasn't talking about you or myself in specific. Some others have described his abilities in much shorter terms, criticizing his qualities altogether.

I didn't mean (like harrisdevot?) that I rather not hear such criticism. It's more that I think they are silenced by the excellent live performance (of both band and singer). Naturally I am provoking a bit, but I do feel that some of them may have judged too early (and/or too dismissive).

Could that be me? I instantly disliked the singer and I still do. The reason I don't comment is because I can see that there is a general excitement about the upcoming gigs in this thread and I'd like things to stay that way.

Well, I haven't been talking much about the album because quite frankly, I listened to it this week for the first time since November. I haven't watched any of the live videos yet because I am still not completely sure whether I will go to the gig in March or not, and if I do, I think it'd be a more interesting experience if I don't know what awaits me.

Ariana I think your initial response to the music (if I recall) was pretty positive. Perun you seem a little (more) unsure? :D

I have to admit, right now, I'm just getting quite excited about seeing Steve in a small venue, more than anything. It will be a good day & evening out with some old friends (pool & beer all day probably!), in a city I love, with a decent gig to finish. I can perfectly understand those who are less than enthused --if this wasn't a Steve side-project it probably wouldn't have been on anyone's radar. But, it is what it is. I think you should go Perun --if only to support Steve.

My issue really isn't with the music - I've heard plenty of mediocre studio bands rip it live - but with the price and venue. I know the venue very well, and I know that it's got absolutely crappy acoustics, and that despite the fact that it doesn't fill very many, it's far from the "intimate" atmosphere Steve is going for. As for the price, regarding the venue and the overall feel, this simply isn't the type of concert I'd pay 37 Euros for. It's something in the category of 20. It's way overpriced. I know it's not Steve's fault, or the promoter's, or even the venue - it's because of a license fee reform in Germany that took place at the turn of the year. Most gigs in Germany will be overpriced from now on by those standards. Still, I simply don't want to pay 37 Euros to see Steve in a venue such as this, especially not if I pay only 20 Euros more and see Maiden in a 16,000 seat arena. It's completely detached from reality.

I'm curious, actually, to how many people do turn out. I bought my tickets reasonably early & they are tickets #44 & 45; which is pretty low. Black Wizard --what number is on your Glasgow tickets? (--should your Mum have given them to you yet! :))
I will tell you in four weeks time when I get home. I am living in Birmingham at the moment and won't be going home for another four weeks. There is no point in asking my mum what number is on the ticket because she'll read the wrong thing!

Brigantium, the fewer, the better : you will get closer to the stage, and within 10 years, you will be proud you've been among the hardest of the hardcore :D .
(I wonder if this is good english :S).

Taking another listen to British Lion as we speak...I seem to recall I wasn't impressed enough to download it or anything.

Edit: Mmm, there are some highlights (thinking A World Without Heaven and Judas) but overall, its still meh imo. But could be interesting live, not sure that he's coming anywhere near where I am though.

They use 'hardest' to mean 'toughest' where I come from.....still don't think it applies to me, ha ha!
And yes, still looking forward to March 30, last night of the tour

"Traveled across the country to see British Lion in a small club in Stockholm last night. I'm glad I did. Easily one of the most fun shows I've seen, but then I love the album too. Richard Taylor's voice is anything but weak and he is a charismatic frontman. There was quite some singing from the crowd in that place, or at least that is my impression from the front row. One of the new songs was very good, "The Burning" that harrisdevot mentions, and I got all the songs I wanted to hear from the album of course (considering the fact they played all but "The Lesson"). Michael Kenney came in and played keyboard on one or two songs. Left the place with one of David Hawkins picks and a British Lion-shirt.

5 out of 5."

Quoting myself from the "Steve Harris"-thread.

I want to add that I told people I was going to see British Lion - because that is what I view it as. A band. And that's what it says on the merch and on the stage.

Paid 360 kr, of which 30-40 is service fee, equals to around £36 in total. Not expensive here, I've seen band with ticket prices at equal to £60 at a nightclub in my own much smaller city. No problem with that. A great gig, which I got more out of than my last Maiden-concert.
