"One" is the cream of this crop. I hadn't seen the Evanescence video before, it's pretty good. Not voting just yet, haven't made up my mind on Maiden vs. Evanescence vs. Queen. Leaning toward Queen, just because of the iconic look (which just copied what they did on the cover two albums earlier). Not sure why the Gorefest and REM videos were even nominated.
With the exception of the melodramatic Evanescence, these are all band performance clips. Metallica manages to merge this idea with film and stock images in a flawless way that enhances the meaning of the song. Not to mention, the lightning and cinematography on the band is just plain fantastic. They get my only vote.
Band performance clips are cool if the intensity is captured in a good way, and if the music is good (if the music does not count, I could just as well turn off the sound). In Gorefest's vid, there's some awesome grooving moments (especially the last minute!) Seeing those really adds a lot in my opinion.
I haven't decided on my second vote yet. I'll definitely vote for Evanescence. They put out a good many well made vids with a decent plot to them. If we'd been short of nominations, I was going to nominate Bring Me To Life or Call Me When You're Sober.
I also think there's a lot to be said for videos with well filmed or stylised performance clips which match the intensity of the music. Wasted Years has a bit too much
of Maiden just larking around for my liking, so I probably won't go for that. Bohemian Rhapsody is iconic, but also dated.
Absolutely love the Rammstein one, no question. I was all set to vote for Pink Floyd, too, wonderful bit of animation, but Korn's video just captures the spirit of the music so well, and is intensely watchable.
