With the corrected capitalization ( :P ), this may be one of the greatest statements made recently on this forum.

Right, cause Maiden is a noun while maiden an adjective.
Therefore, a Maiden groupie is something possible to be. A maiden groupie is not:smartarse:

Dance of Death
What can I say. Perhaps my favourite song of all time.

Paschendale
Another war epic I adore.

Face in the Sand
Great song with an apocalyptically heavy intro.

These Colours Don't Run
Another excellent war epic. Poignant lyrics also.

Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
A true monster. Off kilter and one of the heaviest songs I've encountered.

The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Fast yet big. Awesome lyrics and a great instrumental section.

The Legacy
By all that is holy! This song is unbelievable. Steadily progresses through three distinct segments, culminating in a wall of sound. If you still do not fathom the magnitude of this number:

We seem destined to live in fear
And some that would say Armageddon is near
But where there's a life while there's hope
That man won't self destruct

Why can't we treat our fellow men
With more respect and a shake of their hands
But anger and loathing is rife
The death on all sides is
becoming a way of life

We live in an uncertain world
Fear understanding and ignorance
is leading to death
Only the corpses are left
For vultures that prey on their bones

But some are just not wanting peace
Their whole life is death and misery
The only thing that they know
Fight fire with fire life is cheap

But if they do stop to think
That man is teetering right on the brink
But do you think that they care
They benefit from death and pain and despair.

Now after reading that try tell me this song isn't off the hook. In addition,
But some are just not wanting peace
Their whole life is death and misery

are possibly the best-sung lyrics I have ever heard. Every time I hear them I get shivers down my spine.

Sorry for the long post!
Now go and listen to The Legacy

The Legacy is indeed a great song, but not one that often comes to mind when thinking of great Maiden songs (as is the case with every song on AMOLAD for some reason).

I picked:

1. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
That verse guitar riff is so rockin', how can you not love it? Plus Adrian's solo... :shred:

2. To Tame A Land
I love the part that builds up to Bruce screaming "He has the power to make it all end!". Not to mention the cool Middle-Eastern vibe.

3. Revelations (more or less a tie with TTAL)
The lyrics in this one are superb and sound great over that simple rock riff (I know the first verse is an English Hymnal).

4. Purgatory (I accidentally clicked Prodigal Son)
"Split my brain, melt through the floor"

5. Dance of Death
The defining Maiden epic, barely edging out Rime for me.

6. Ghost of The Navigator
You can almost feel the waves hitting the hull of the ship in this song.

7. Paschendale
Can't leave this one out, but as an AMOLAD fan it was hard not to vote Longest Day.

Still Life: Extremely underrated, greatest Maiden song ever with Bruce's best performance of all time
For the Greater Good of God: Best reunion era Maiden song and it never gets boring
Prowler: My favorite Di'Anno song, this should close their concerts again, a perfect song.
Hallowed Be Thy Name: Nothing needs to be said here.
Sea of Madness: Maybe the most underrated Maiden song ever, fantastic chorus and solos.
Alexander the Great: One of the best performances by Bruce on an epic song.
Afraid to Shoot Strangers: Best song they did in the 90's, atmospheric and beautiful.
The Legacy: A new Maiden epic closer! Great lyrics by Janick i believe.

No prob. It's funny that the only members who didn't write lyrics for Maiden are Dennis Stratton and Janick (I'm counting from the debut onwards).

They probably wouldn't let Dennis write because he listened to the Eagles  :P

How do you know Janick didn't write the lyrics?

'Cos Steve said. Plus, I think 25 years listening to a band makes you quite knowledgeable about some of its basic catachteristics.

Sure, but you can't be sure just by listening. Maybe Janick writes similar to 'arry. When did Steve say that?

We can't always know what happens behind the Iron Curtain. Here is an interview with Bruce, Janick and Nicko where Bruce says that Janick wrote the lyrics in The Pilgrim!

http://s10.invisionfree.com/Maiden_fans ... /t7852.htm

Lyrically, even though we were allowed to see the lyrics only for a short while, basically, we have subjects touching on mythology and war, right?

Yes, something like that. For example, “The Longest Day” deals with the matter of war and terror [my comment: this must be an error, the song Bruce must be referring to is “For The Greater Good Of God”], it has to do with the war atmosphere that is felt throughout the world in the last years. “The Pilgrim”, which’s lyrics are written by Janick, is about the Crusades and the pilgrims of the Holy Land. In general, war is a subject that really concerns me, especially in the last few years it affects me as a lyricist and it troubles me as a human being. It has many dimensions and if you look to find all the outcomes, positive or negative it certainly is a never ending subject. You know, wherever there is a negative element, there is another positive one. It’s the same with war, as cruel as it might sound, it has positive elements that take effect during it’s course or afterwards.
