Maybe he's not original but his solos on the video I/Forostar posted are much better than the ones from, for example, recent Yngwie Malmsteen wankfest albums.

So - catchy-ness and melodic-ness > technicallity and originality.

True.

And I like Malmsteen a lot. But Yngwie's become rather lazy. He said it himself, he doesn't do alternative takes anymore. Maybe in rare cases? He just plays the solo and whatever he plays stays.

I don't get it -he's got the the technical prowess and the original sound.
But, not the fan support on this forum.

If a Maiden guitarist gets the no. 1 spot I'm going to be rather annoyed. I love those guys and they are extraordinary within the context of the music, Dave Murray is one of my primary inflluences but if any of them wins... Let's just say the result is clearly biased if Maiden gets both best guitarist and vocalist.  :innocent:  :ninja:

Well all of my favorite vocalist, bassist and guitarist of all time are members of Maiden so, not for me  :bigsmile:

Indeed. However, the competition reads "best" and not favorite.

However, the poll says "least liked". I think the title is a bit misleading. If the title said "favorite" or similar instead of "best" I wouldn't mind if Maiden topped.

This does however mean that I'll still be annoyed if Maiden wins.  :innocent:

Most of their stuff is Iron Maiden + Judas Priest with some early Thrash elements.

Check out Alive in Athens, Something Wicked this Way Comes and maybe The Glorious Burden. The Gettysburg trilogy (which is 30 minutes long) is amazing.
