Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 1: Round 3

B. B. King pioneered blues and is a guitar legend, I don't see anyone not liking him.
Steve Vai
Kiko Loureiro
Michael Weikath

GROUP 1: ROUND 3 RESULTS:
Michael Weikath (HELLOWEEN) and Steve Vai (DAVID LEE ROTH, WHITESNAKE) are eliminated.

Kiko Loureiro
Btw. next round will start on Sunday evening, 'cause I won't be here for a few days...

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 1: Round 4

King, Broderick, Loureiro
I assume that after this is finished, there is going to be a BEST BASSISTS and DRUMMERS EVER GAME!, right? Have you thought of BEST COMPOSERS EVER GAME!?

Kiko Loureiro

Craig Goldy

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 1: Round 4

Someone bring Craig Goldy to the next round.

This (solo starts at: 2:55) and this (solo starts at: 2:04) should convince some of you guys.

Goldy always has been a master of the build-up. As these clips show, back in the eighties and in more recent times.

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 1: Round 4

I love Goldy but it's a shame that he is in the same group with B.B. King, Roy Z and Randy Rhoads. I had to vote him, sadly.

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 1: Round 4

It's still possible. 4 will go to the next round.

Drummers first, then bassists, then keyboardists. I'll think about composers after those games finish.

GROUP 1: ROUND 4 RESULTS:
B.B. King and Kiko Loureiro (ANGRA) are eliminated.

Chris Broderick (JAG PANZER, MEGADETH), Craig Goldy (DIO), Randy Rhoads (OZZY OSBOURNE) and Roy Z (BRUCE DICKINSON, HALFORD) are promoted.

Group 2 is here!

Buck Dharma
Jeff Beck
Joe Bonamassa

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 2: Round 1

Almost everyone voted for Norberg. I wonder if you guys took a listen via de link Night Prowler provided?
Very clean tone, great feel, awesome ideas and execution, fantastic speed and above all: melodic!
Basically he's the ideal metal guitarist.

This is him in Nocturnal Rites. -> http://youtu.be/QtQwhiYMWWM
Great track, but if you like to skip to the solo, take a worthwile listen @ 2.00   :shred:

Yes, I did listen and I like Nocturnal Rites. Saw them live once too. He's very good, no doubt. Even great and I agree that he's the stereotypical modern Metal lead guitarist. I think he lacks originality though and I got quite bored watching it. I do enjoy him in the context of the band, but I didn't like the instrumental song.

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 2: Round 1

Each to his own. :)

Originality is one thing, but I also find execution and build-up important.
E.g. which path does a guitar player take? I think he sounds very complete and he knows how to touch the right melodic "snares", so to speak. Stereotypical? No way.

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 2: Round 1

I would rather take catchy-ness and melodic-ness over technicallity and originality.

Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME! Elimination - Group 2: Round 1

This guy has it all. He might be less original, but what do we want? Should he play twice as slow?
This is just how he is. It's his style of playing. And for people who like this kind of metal, what more/else do we want?

*attempts to end promo rant*

Save for originality.  :P

No but really, I don't think there's anything unique about him. He's a solid guitarist but he doesn't bring anything new to the table. Malmsteen, Satriani, Petrucci, Chuck Berry etc, all these guys are easily recognizable, original and great at what they do.
Norgren's great though, no doubt. It's just that he doesn't stand out. He doesn't have a personality of his own in the same sense as many others. He sounds like a lot of other people. That's how I see it.
