Number, Matter, Defenders. Piece of Mind and Brave New World are next. Yep, I'd only have 3 Maiden albums in the top 10 from that list (and I do have some albums missing from my personal top 10 as well).

Sin After Sin
Defenders of the Faith
Screaming for Vengeance

I'd vote against Rising on the tie-breaker but forgot to do it. It wouldn't make much of a difference, anyway.

Chemical
Accident
Matter

Maiden is going to destroy this survivor. What's important to me is that 2 of my faves make it to the Top 5, and one of them at least Top 3.

Sad Votes its Destiny & DaVoters sealed its Fate.

Well, at least I'm getting more hopeful about a certain other development in this game.

Sad Wings is my sixth favorite album on the list, sad to see it leave too early. Especially when Screaming for Vengeance only gets two votes. How on earth Screaming is better than Sad Wings? Victim of Changes, Dreamer Deceiver, The Ripper, Tyrant, come on now.

I think some people didn't vote for SFV because they thought they could only do three including the tie break vote.

???? - AMOLAD threatened?
Not sure what trend you see developing.

I definitely have to relisten to Screaming but I probably prefer it to Sad Wings. The way I see it: The Ripper, Tyrant and an honourable mention to Victim of Changes (which I'm not a very big fan of).

However, Sad Wings is getting too many votes compared to some other material.

I enjoy Sad Wings a lot but SFV beats it without issue for me.

There isn't a single track on that album that I wouldn't rate "awesome", I also love the tone/feel of the album.

That is however an unfortunate bias that cannot be helped for me in all albums of all bands but is hard to ignore. Newer albums tend to have a stronger guitar tone and production that I prefer and it just adds to the albums, for instance the guitar sound on Hellrider compared to that of say Genocide. I do try and ignore this as much as I can and often turn to live versions, but even taking this into account I still prefer all the songs on SVF. Yes, ALL of them, and no, don't respond with "What? How can you say..." because it's personal taste and I can say it simply because it's true.

That is also true for me of a lot of 70s metal. The brilliance of Sin after Sin and Stained Class took a while to sink in for exactly that reason. Blue Oyster Cult is another band whose early stuff is handicapped significantly.

There is the odd album around from the early 80's that I think "Damn, they got that tone! Why didn't all the other bands :(" not that I can actually think of which they are offhand as it's been so long >.< Defenders is one of the much better 'tone' albums from that era, and SFV to a lesser extent, but most albums around there just feel too light.

The ferocity of Live Insurrection Tyrany vs Sad Wings Tyrant, no contest!

Yeah, the "guitar sound strength" thing I've been thinking lots and lots about. It's also one of the main reasons why I like Painkiller so very much (also the harsher drum sound). Guitars are not just distorted more but also they keep the clean and nice sound.
