Oh damn didn't realize Liquid Tension Experiment albums weren't in.

Seconding Mosh's nomination of the Liquid Tension Experiment II, nominating Liquid Tension Experiment I. Amazing albums.

Would you play in a Symphony X survivor?

I actually haven't heard the first LTE, I should get to that. They were/are much better live.

I'd have to relisten to their albums since I now exclusively listen to their live performances, but I'd participate. Very underrated band, imo.

Awesome. Interesting that you only listen to their live performances. Though I saw them last year and they were amazing, didn't miss a single note.

Their songs sound much better in a live setting. I find the albums too crisp. Very cool that you got to see them live. They're one of the bands I want to see the most live. :)

Definitely. Besides the last two albums, their stuff has never sounded right as far as mixing and production goes. Of Sins And Shadows and Inferno (the two "old" songs they played) came out so much better than what is on the album.

Jugulator +1.

Was going to list it myself but figured it wouldn't get too far, but if other people want it no reason not to support.

I always figured Jug was like X Factor. Might not be any interest to casual fans (my dad disregards it solely because of the absence of Halford) but if you like hearing all aspects of a band's canon then it holds up.

Jug's great. The only reason I didn't second it is because I didn't think it would last. But hell, +1. It's got my favorite Priest song.

This forum is quite North American-minded when it comes to the mid eighties. Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica.
Big names. I had hoped for stronger support for Helloween and Candlemass. Very fine metal albums.

It's North American generally. I think we have more North Americans than Europeans, when it comes to active members.

Back on Topic: Hey guys, what's wrong with you, 8 votes for Physical Graffiti?? Com'n people, show some respect :p

Candlemass isn't my cup of tea at all. I like some Helloween but not WoJ. Too messy and generic. Plus no Kiske.

Mosh, I can understand it's not your cup of tea, but I still like to stress that both bands did something new with these albums.

Candlemass started the doom metal genre, and they did that by leaning on the slower and heavy (but also "stoner rock") side of seventies Black Sabbath, making it epic in their own way.

Walls of Jericho, Helloween's first album, is everything but generic. The use of such drum style was done in a few songs by other bands such as in Let Us Prey/Call for the Priest by Priest, but Helloween made a trademark of it.
Speedy songs with melodic guitar work and slashing riffs. It's like they mixed the best elements of Bay Area metal bands and Judas Priest, with the melodic wit of Iron Maiden. Yes, my friends, besides Maiden*, there are not that many bands making so much use of speed, tempo changes and melody as Helloween.

This was the basis of the power metal genre. While Kai's voice was rough (and not always 100% on key), he hardly had an accent as many other German singers. And he could scream. A great combination, fitting well to the aggressive side of their music.

Perhaps these albums were not their best, but they were the essence of why we call them the pioneers of the styles they invented.

*And this is also why I am a bit surprised that they hardly get recognition on this forum, although I might be too impatient, because we still have the Keepers albums.

I'm sure Keeper albums will do fine. And Candlemass is not an easy band to get into, it's no surprise they don't get much support, I think.

Jug's great. The only reason I didn't second it is because I didn't think it would last. But hell, +1. It's got my favorite Priest song.

Jugulator's not that great imo (it's not bad though), but it does have a few kickass songs on it and I do respect Priest for the direction they took. So +1 on Jugulator even though I'm not really playing this game.

Additionally, sad to see Walls of Jericho with so many votes. The regular album beats Keeper 1 for me and if you go the Extended WoJ (Helloween EP + Judas) added, it beats Keeper 2!
