Uh, Amon Amarth will send a horde of Vikings to pillage people's homes if they don't vote in this survivor?

The Crusher joins the game and another extended round it is! :)

To be honest, the only song from this album I remember is Releasing Surtur's Fire (awesome song)... gotta refresh my memory of it.

I'm a relatively new Amon Amarth fan and they are still the only band I listen to that uses 100% harsh vox...so I think you'll find that my tastes differ on what makes a "good" Amon Amarth song. The faster, growlier, poorly yelled stuff with little to no vocal melodies? Not my favorite.

I find the vocals in their earlier music a touch painful. I don't know if it's a production issue or poor technique. Otherwise I'm happy with fast and growly.

I think it's both. The production is far more raw, but it sounds like Johan was still perfecting his voice. The first two albums he switches between the growl we all know and love, a higher pitched shriek-style growl that sounds more black metaly, and some sort of hardcore growl-yell thing. It took him a few albums to find his best voice.

Johan responded appropriately. Charismatic guy, really good frontman. He kept coming over and posing when I had my camera out. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't perfected his voice at this stage. I'm fine with shrieks and black metal stuff, but some growls just sound like the singer is hurting him/herself. Jonas Renkse from Katatonia is one such example. In their early stuff he sounds like he's bellowing. Sure enough, he damaged his voice and today has to sing in very soft, clean vocals.

Without Fear, Risen, Fury, Ginnungagap.

I had trouble choosing from the Crusher songs. They're much of a muchness. None bad, but only one or two stand-out good.

Agreed. Although I'm gonna take a guess that our standout songs are different.
