Adrian Smith

Interesting track quite different to the previous single.
Interesting and slightly different structure-build of the rhythm. The riffing and verses remind me of Urchin. The chorus is playful enough, the vocal ideas work. Melodic singing is like a trademark for them. They said at first they didn't know if the song would be on the album, something like that. I like that the solos are longer, they work really well again (Adrian and Richie have great chemistry) and Adrian with a tasty solo of his own, cool and melodic (ofc). I dig it. The material manages to sound catchy, which is great for rock music.

Fun rock. I'm not sure it's that different from the previous single though, if at all. Two title tracks after all.

Really? I mostly hear very generic rock music elements.
I understand you, but I don't think I can call it generic rock elements with ease. More like a classic 70's rock sound (with some commercial vibe here and there) that's not really that generic. Interesting is different. And the most important thing is to be good. Decent and fine songs so far imo.

edit: Adrian & Richie:
''We had a lot of fun making this. We'd be writing and I'd want something inspired by some of my old hard rock or blues go-to bands then it'd go into a more progressive feel — and then Richie has these strong soul influences so there's a lot to dig into there too. Influences are what makes the musical world go round — they go through you and come out slightly differently''.
''SMITH/KOTZEN is all about finding common ground. Maybe Adrian will tend to go heavy, and then I'll lean more in the fusion or funk or soul side of things, but somewhere in the middle is our sound: that heavy blues rock vibe that we really connect on''.

Fun rock? Ok, maybe. To me this is just totally forgettable and interchangeable.

My favourite take is that this stuff means that Adrian is working on new Maiden songs using his brilliant ideas. :D

Wow, this song gets a lot of very negative comments on the Iron Maiden Facebook page. That is really atypical. Everything in connection with Maiden is normally praised and liked there.
(But I understand them...)

Maiden fans like metal, so it's not something that unusual. Surprising? Well, yeah, their first album was well-received.
Get a few things sorted out, Adrian, write songs for the new Maiden album and then maybe some good ideas will come to you solo again.
Adrian's ideas for his solo project and Maiden are very different. His solo in the song could have been used for a Maiden song, I guess.

I really hope they tour the album.
Why wouldn't they?
The last solo efforts of Maiden members have rather made me keep my fingers crossed for further Iron Maiden albums even more.
Yes, the hunger for something new and creative. But it's always like that with Maiden. Interesting ideas from Bruce and playing/riffs from Adrian (always a pleasure to listen to his melodic approach).

To those who say Adrian should only write for Maiden, the obvious question is why haven't Maiden recorded (to our knowledge) an album since 2019, albeit not released till 2021? Steve said last year there were no plans.

Adrian has released two and a half albums now with Richie, Bruce released the Mandrake Project and Steve is apparently still writing the 3rd BL album.

I think we would all prefer a new Maiden album, but given the lack of one, I don't think you can blame any of them for keeping busy. And if they made an album which was a direct rip off of Maiden would that make anyone happy anyway? So yeah making records with different people and trying different things will always provoke a mixed reaction, and that is fine.

I find it hard to believe every Beatles fan is a huge fan of Ringos solo work for instance,,,,,

Great second single. Both Black Light and White Noise has to be in a setlist in future tours. I know Wasted Years has been in the set for a while, but the Smith/Kotzen material is so strong so they could do a more obscure Maiden song. Gangland?

On first listen to it I thought it was decent, don't know what the drummer is doing in the chorus though, groove completely falls out of the song
