Pinkoboe
Trooper
I think there are some substantial issues regarding the provenance of this guitar. If the handwritten note from Mr. Murray could be authenticated in some way, I would believe it, but in the absence of that:
- It is described as a 1962 strat. However, its serial number of L20508 would date the guitar to 1964.
- The serial number stamping looks totally fake with the "L2" being larger than the rest of the numbers. If you compare this to the neck plates of other vintage strats, it looks totally wrong.
- Home made looking Iron Maiden "Certificate of Authenticity" produced and signed by who?
- Pictures included in the auction do not appear to include any actual images of this guitar.
- The listing states "The above instrument was one two 1962 Black Fender Stratocasters that was owned and used by Dave Murray for Stage, Touring and Recording Purposes." There is no evidence this thing was ever played on stage, nor that he owned another black 1962 strat.
