2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil

I wouldn't suspend him for life. Maybe 15 EPL matches and all of European & international games for the season (including all remaining WC games).

If Suarez was to start a restaurant:

Call me a softy, but looking at what happened with Suarez I rather feel confused, embarrassed and even feel some pity for him, more than anger. He damaged himself because of this.

I agree. Like I said before, biting is Suarez's first reaction when he's annoyed and develops anger, whereas for most players it's throwing elbows, headbutting, punching etc. Biting obviously is much more over the top, resulting in heavy punishment for Suarez. The punishment NP offered is fine and he really should take some therapy sessions.

Best possible angle:

I also downloaded the game later, and Uruguayan players were trying to cover up Chiellini when he moved his shirt to show the bite <_<

@Forostar - One angle clearly shows Sio's leg catching Samaras' foot before his foot hits the ground. It's debateable whether it was a stonewall penalty, but it's certainly not a case of "definitely not a penalty" either, like the one Brazil got against Croatia in the first game. For what it's worth, everyone in the studio for the tv coverage over here also thought it was a penalty. :p It's one of those that could have gone either way, as it only looks like a penalty from one of the replay angles.

About Suarez, I agree with everything you've said. A life ban is too harsh, but he should be suspended for a year, and also be made to undergo compulsory therapy during that time if he wants to return to the game. His subdued celebrations at the end of the match I think was an indicator that he knew he had done something really stupid, and likely was going to face punishment for it.

Damn it's crystal clear from that angle :D

It is indeed! ;) And the fact Samaras was about to shoot meant that the ref pretty much had no option but to give it. As he was stopped from having what was a clear goal scoring opportunity. The only debate is whether his foot would have hit the ground anyway without Sio's impedement, and my interpretation of it, is that it likely wouldn't have.

I was talking about the Suarez gif NP posted, actually. But yeah, I think it was a penalty as well.

Oh! Sorry. And yep, it is crystal clear from that angle. When I first saw it, I thought Suarez had headbutted him, but there are at least a couple of angles that show it was definitely a bite. And Chiellini showing the bite marks on his shoulder was the final nail in Suarez's coffin.

In all this I must say I'm impressed with the self-control some players are showing. If an opposition player had bit me, I would have retaliated. Probably by punching the bastard and being sent off myself ...

Yeah, I think him throwing his elbow out was just a natural and instinctive reaction from being bitten. I don't think he was intentionally trying to elbow Suarez in the face.

Agreed. That's how it looks to me, too. Everyone would throw an elbow or something just to get the guy away. And when attackers and defenders fight for positions in front of the goal, there are elbows, pushes, shoving and shirt tugs all over the place.

You can see him come in with mouth open, make contact, and then see the jaw contract. 100%. He bit him. He's gone.

If I were the Uruguay coach, I'd leave him off the next couple matches he's eligible for, at the very least.
