2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil

I'm watching both games, and what a game from Greece. We can say their style can be awful, but we cannot say they don't give it all. Karagounis, fabulous player. :applause:

Congratulations, they deserve it.

Greece with a deserved win, and Ivory Coast join the club of the disappointments of this tournament. The biggest positive surprise must be Costa Rica, topping group D. Really hope they beat Greece in the next round.

Colombia have also done better than I thought. Wonder how they will do against a (probably Suarez-less) Uruguay.

Greece well deserved to win, Cote d'Ivoire were a huge disappointment with their terrible display on this one.

Colombia are my favorites against Uruguay. I fully expected them to dominate their group. They're definitely on Uruguay's level on paper, Suarez will likely be out and Colombia are on a much better form.

Greece are going to be playing Costa Rica in the next round which means we're gonna have at least one underdog surprise team in the Quarter Finals.

So far 10 teams qualified for round of 16 of which 7 are from America and 3 from Europe. There's 3 teams left from America, Ecuador and USA have a realistic chance while Honduras is probably out.

... which is cool. I hope Costa Rica end up as the big surprise team of this tournament. Partly because three players in their squad (two of them regulars) have played for Fredrikstad.

On the other hand, this is the first time since 1982 that England failed the next round (except 1994...). This means that it's their worst perfomance i ever saw from them.

So glad I decided to watch the Greece game! They were so boring in the first two games, it was like a different team this time out. lol Even after they went a goal up, they weren't content to simply try and defend the 1-0 lead, which surprised me, instead, they tried to kill the game off with a second goal. Greece definitely deserved to win, and Ivory Coast were disappointing. I hope Greece play like that against Costa Rica, as that will be a cracking game if they do. Well done Samaras and Greece! :)

A Norwegian bet $5 that Suarez would bite someone during the World Cup. Now paid out.

I'll cheer for Costa Rica as well, mainly because they play more enjoyable football and also because Greece already managed to be the darkhorse champions of the Euro 2004.

Ivory Coast had a big chance to win that game at the end. They were disappointing because they missed chances. I am not unhappy for Greece but it certainly could have gone the other way.

They did, but at that point, Greece were gambling and throwing everyone forward, as they had no choice at that point, so they were leaving themselves massively exposed at the back, which Ivory Coast nearly took advantage of. Greece also hit the bar twice, and the post once (although I think the latter was a mishit cross rather than a shot. lol) And I think generally, Greece did look more threatening when they got to near the Ivory Coast area than vice versa. Greece certainly didn't dominate the game, but I thought they did just enough to deserve the victory, and their defending throughout the match was outstanding.

I do think the Greek defense served to make the Ivory Coast attack look more inept than it actually was. In the end, it was a great game with much drama and excitement. A great contrast to Greece's first two matches! lol :)

Ivory Coast had the ball but played too messy to become really dangerous. Greece played with a lot of fire and they certainly came closest to victory with their shots on the crossbar. Eventually, thanks to a dubious penalty they won the match. It looked like Samaras kicked himself to the ground.

Yep, that was the difference between the sides. Greece had a fire and an edge to their performance which the Ivory Coast lacked. For them to be so attack minded, even after they scored, was surprising, and very uncharacteristic for them. As for the penalty, Sio definitely caught Samaras with his left leg, before Samaras' foot kicks the ground. And the fact he caught him just as he was about to shoot was probably what made up the referee's mind. For me, it was a penalty. In the end, over the course of the 90 minutes, I think Greece did just enough to deserve the win.

I bet the referee didn't even see that he fell because of himself. The defender hardly touched the man. I maintain of the opinion that it was a heavy punishment.

Call me a softy, but looking at what happened with Suarez I rather feel confused, embarrassed and even feel some pity for him, more than anger. He damaged himself because of this.

The man has done this three times now and obviously can't channel his emotions/aggression well.
He doesn't have his impulses under control. It looks like he has a personality disorder. Definitely needs therapy. I'd say remove him from the tournament immediately and give him an effective treatment, which also learns him to deal with stress. Suspend him for a while, maybe even 1 or 2 years, but a suspension for life is in my eyes a heavy punishment for someone who doesn't have himself under control because he has a mental disorder.
