18th Studio Album discussion

My fear is that British Lion / Mandrake lineup Bruce solo are viable distractions from having THE TALK for the principal players. I also fear that the emotional impact of Nickos retirement on the wider unit has been skipped over.

What emotional impact do you see or fear? When I watched the band live I thought they were more energised and motivated than they had been in a long time.

We have the documentary to come which doesnt seem to of been mentioned for a while? I doubt anything will happen until 2028 as 2027 seems to be a complete break from maiden. Diannos documentary is due out quite soon as well i believe.
Di'Anno's documentary will be released this Summer. An official statement was released some weeks ago. I think Maiden's will be seen in 2027: this and live DVD/Album.

I don't believe the break means there will be no work on Maiden projects at all. It makes no sense to waste so much time.

Regarding the documentary about Paul Di'Anno: The current information is that it will be released by Cleopatra Entertainment this summer.

I imagine Bruce will be touring alot probably Adrian as well and BL may well out out their third album. So lots of activity just not necessarily Maiden.

It doesn't make sense to me that Maiden would take a year off so that some members could (perhaps) tour solo.
With Bruce in particular, I always get the impression that it bothers him more when he has no commitments for a few weeks.
I believe he could and would definitely want to do both Maiden and solo stuff.

Caerdav is still expanding, he became director of another company last year, he brews beer, is supposedly appearing in his sons horror film is still writing the Mandrake Project comics (I think? or has he abandoned this?) and will be releasing a new album and touring with his band. Oh and he will fit in some fencing along the way at some point as well.

Probably other things I am forgetting. He gives talks at air conventions? So I think you can rest assured Bruce will have plenty of commitments. And who knows he may even fit in some songwriting with Steve/Adrian.

I agree with you about the shows. But it's the difference between Steve's 'carry on regardless' attitude, whereby the enforced change of Nicko's retirement is a hurdle to overcome to just keep going.

Versus any kind of introspection around what Nicko's departure means. What it means for how members feel about the band now, and about ageing. Crucially, what it means for working out what else they want from Maiden before another forced retirement likely forces the band's end.

Adrian, being the more emotionally sensitive of the members, is the only one I heard reflect on Nicko's departure with any real heart. I'm not saying they don't miss him, but my fear is that it is swept under the carpet in favour of ploughing on and preserving the ambiguity of Nicko still spiritually being in the band (if not functionally).

Not asking for 'Some Kind of Monster' levels of bullshit psychotherapy. But the way the emotions around Nicko's end of career are dealt with in the documentary will be an interesting marker.

Yeah, they do solo tours because Maiden take a year off, not the other way around.

Yeah but Saxon sucks lol
I think you have Saxon confused with your mum, now she sucks big time lol.

It’s all a matter of opinion but I think Saxon are pretty great and Biff still sounds pretty good despite age and health issues.

My point for bringing them up is simply down to how productive they are releasing albums and I just wish Maiden released albums as often. Plus the band are older than Maiden and Biff is 75 so a good 8 years older than Bruce and I think he sounds great live still so, for the band to still be chucking out albums on a regular basis at their age is impressive.

Whether your a Saxon fan or not when you compare their last 8 or so albums to there overall body of work and the albums considered classics back in the early 1980’s then the quality stands up. There’s no point any just releasing a ton of albums for the sake of it and with minimal effort and lack of creativity but the apart still seems to be there for Saxon and I think their last 3 albums in particular have been really strong.

Just wish Maiden had been more prolific.

I've thought about Maiden's next step(s) lately. This year is generally about the tour around the world, and probably next year they will release a live album and a movie. I wouldn't be surprised if they use a documentary as the main topic of the 2028 tour and promotion. If they were to decide to do that, they could announce the next global tour as nothing short of "RFYL Part 2" with the songs from their whole career. As we know, Steve is not into writing and recording another IM album. In my opinion, releasing the documentary and the final global tour could be the logical step for the band.

...

I don't know if it was really such a unique, traumatic moment for them (although very sad of course), because they have already been through a much bigger shock: when Bruce told them he had cancer.
Not only would he have been forced to leave the band, he could even have died.
That's why I too doubt that they see it in connection with ageing.

The experience of continuing with the band after (even more than one) member has left is not a first too.
