18th Studio Album discussion

Yeah, Maiden as a business is planned years and years in advance. Steve, Bruce and Adrian have their various solo projects that need to be worked around Maidens schedule.

The logistics in everything Maiden do takes time so can't be thrown together last minute. If you're going on tour for example you need to sell tickets about a year in advance, so planning routes, booking venues, transportation, crew, having staging/props made up all has to be done even earlier than that.

We've just started 2026, so any 2028 touring is likely already in the early planning stages.

2027 isn't going to be a year of sitting on their hands. I reckon a few months in the studio and some time for solo projects makes sense.
For a 2028 tour, we need a new album. They can’t do a. Greatest hits tour again following their touring pattern since the 2000s. Really hope they’re able to make the most out of 2027. Maybe spend early 2027 in studio for a launch in Sept 2027 and then hit the road early 2028 (Book of Souls style)

Fair to say there won't be many more chances after then for a new album + new album tour.

They dont want to record so another tour with rare songs and other classics should be the option.

They could carry on with the greatest hits tour idea i suppose if they start to play more stuff from the reunion era instead of just repeating the 80`s era.

I think they will be back with the Run For Your Lives Tour Part 2, featuring the greatest tracks from 1995-2021 albums, as well as some of the most obvious hits from the classic era. To me, it's obvious. The studio albums aren't selling well anymore, and it's a lot of effort to make another one. I think Senjutsu is the last one for good.

The weirdest thing is that this is like knowing how end the most beloved book series or TV show, after many decades. And to do it in the best possible way for the makers and the fans. There is no perfect way to see out the next few years given the weight of expectation.

For me, a new album and attendant tour is far, far better and more fitting than an 80s tour.

They must have all individually written many new ideas by now. 2019 was a long long time ago. It would be shame if we never see those ideas realized through album 18. I am hoping in 2027 they spend 2 months in France and bang out an album for a 2028 release + world tour
I doubt that ideas were for an iron maiden album. They work on their solo proyects.

I disagree. They will have ideas, and some of them will fit Iron Maiden, while others will be more suited to solo projects.
In Steve's case in particular, I think he had a lot of ideas that he wouldn't try to realize with British Lion.

I'm not sure Steve brings any ideas to British Lion, the singer writes all the words I think, I kind of get the impression he just arranges ideas or maybe adds to ideas that the rest of the band bring.

I doubt there's ever been a single instance where Steve thought he had a good idea but wouldn't present it for Maiden.

I think if you see their album interviews they always talk about bringing pretty advanced stage demos (especially Adrian) to the recording studio. This is almost essential for them since they give themselves so little time at the studio. So it is likely all of them parked away riffs and melodies for a potential album.

As long as they don't do a Kirk Hammett and lose their phone on which all ideas were recorded :D

Did that really happen to Kirk? I have always had the impression that most people believe he only used that as an excuse because he didn't really have any ideas/wasn't working on them.

I still believe that you don't schedule such an extensive, exhausting tour for 2026 and then nothing for 2027 without a very specific, important reason.
You could also take a break to further reflect on the future without doing absolutely nothing with Iron Maiden for an entire year.
Spot on about both. Maiden rarely take breaks.

Yep, they probably started some planning for 2028. They plan around Maiden, Steve won't hurry with BL, but Bruce and Adrian's activities and plans for 2027 are kind of tricky for Maiden. Even if Adrian won't write and tour with SK, Bruce will be quite busy (album release early, more promotion, big tour at least 5 months). I think early 2027 after the tour is more comfortable for them than in the winter, but let's see Adrian's plans.
They have to write (and release) in 2027 if they want a new album tour in 2028, the summer festivals, which I assume they'll want after the break (the fall will be for Bruce's 2nd solo tour leg, I guess he will do).

I also think they will stick to the pattern. A BOS style release (Sept 2027, starting the tour in March 2028 until the summer or Sept at the latest) is possible. Also time for promotion. With more dates to make up for 2027. The new album tour could be just 1 year, if they want and with that schedule.

Yeah, but they usually need a theme for the tours, even with the new flexible stage set.

I don't think that's an excuse for them.
I'd love this
Me too, but I think Part 2 (6-8 songs) + new album (at least 5 songs) + some hits (3-5, or with a couple deep cuts) is more possible. Like a FFTE set. 2 legs. I also think a potential Part 2 could/would be 1 year (the perfect 3rd leg to RFYL, the same stage- if not new music), they will probably want 2030 to be something new, doing 2 tours in one again to save time. The thing is, their options for Hits tours are all done. The next one should be from all eras.

I would say - a set covering all eras (probably with some albums missing: NPFTD, Blaze, TFF, etc).

Also to use the other 2019 ideas.

Ofc their ideas are separate for Maiden and their projects. Adrian said it.

Well noted.

Having some (advanced) ideas already to work on in the studio makes the process much easier for them, right.

I am really excited by the new solo lineup of Bruce. The guitarists are amazing and I have a feeling there will be lot more interesting riffs and solos in the next album compared to what we got in the Mandrake Project. I still hope he saves his best ideas for maiden or Steve is able to steal some songs lol. I don't care at all about Adrian's project with Richie. It sounds very dated and uninspired.

I wonder how that works. Could there be a contract that gives Steve the right to use a song written by Bruce for Iron Maiden if he wants to?
I think it's just friendship. Bruce owns the rights to his song and both are his band. For him it also makes sense in terms royalties to release a song under maiden
