18th Studio Album discussion

I am optimist and think that they will record new album in 2027. From there it can go two ways. Either release new album in spring 2028 and tour with it in summer and autumn and 2029.
Or what I think is more likely - tour 2028 summer with songs from BNW to Senjutsu (RFYL part ll) and one song from new album (+couple of classics) with release of new album in fall 2028. And then tour new album 2029-2930. That's usually what they have done and would have done with Senjutsu if Covid hadn't change their plans - one new song for LotB third leg with autumn release.
At least that is what I'm hoping for. Would really love to see Brave New World and Dance of Death live one day.
I’d love that. Let’s see whether that’s what a group of guys in their early 70s by then can pull it off… really wish they weren’t stringing out the album part so much.

I could also imagine that there is a connection between the announcement of the tour break in 2027 and Steve's comments—so that not too many fans realize that 2027 is supposed to be reserved for the album.

PS:
I can understand why they decided and announced that. Dave looks pretty sick. ;-)

(I stumbled across it on social media and thought it was funny. Hopefully no one will fall for it.)

It's just that ending everything with RFYL is going out with a bang! There's obviously a reason for releasing both art book and documentary in time for the NA tour and not earlier. They need to be on everyone's lips if they are going to sell out stadiums. And I think they will succeed. And after that, with a big break inbetween, are they going to tour with BNW -> Senjutsu? Tour with a new album? It's going to be a struggle if you're not doing some special thing with their most loyal fanbase. I would love more music but to be honest, ending it with RFYL is perfect in every way.

I don't agree at all. Ending with a tour that doesn't take into account anything that came after the reunion wouldn't be perfect for me, but rather strange and inappropriate.

Interesting, the guy next to Bruce could be either Simon, who finally bought a long-haired wig, or Nicko.

Maybe not perfect for you (or me), but for their legacy. And I think legacy is important for this band (and Steve).

May be someone should whisper to Bruce that if recording a whole album is stressful for Steve then they could always release singles. One new song like TWOTW with a fresh video would keep the fans happy for a year.
Not all fans. An average rock song with a childish video would not make me happy for one week.

I disagree. Maiden’s legacy is their longevity and the fact that they have two distinct eras over the course of 45 years with several classic albums in each (also their insistence on presenting the new material live). I don’t mind the current tour and get that they want to revisit their classics after Future Past, but I will be bummed if they retire on a setlist that ignores the majority of their catalog and history.

Or, as I've said before, go hybrid again. New album + 1995-Senjutsu, + obligatory classics in the encore. It won't leave a ton of room for new songs, especially with the average length of reunion era songs. The consensus around here, at least, is that a 1995-Senjutsu set wouldn't sell nearly as well as RFYL. But, if you do 1995-Present (i.e. new album tour) and pitch it as a new album tour/hybrid like they did with Future Past, that might be a bit more enticing, IMO.

Why don't do it 2000-new album, 6 songs reunion, 6 songs new album, IM, FOTD, TNOTB, WY and that's it.

Mainly because--looking at RFYL and a possible latter half of the career followup--they'd be quite flagrantly ignoring the Blaze era as if it wasn't important. Fans understandably would jump all over that, just like loads complained that No Prayer was omitted from RFYL.

Realistically, though, we'd likely only get Sign and Clansman again, which were well featured in both the BNW set and the Legacy set. Personally, I wouldn't miss them terribly since we've got great Bruce versions, but to do so would invite complaints by ignoring those albums in a potential followup to a career spanning pair of tours.

Yeah, but what's point in hearing sign and clansman only 6 years after being played for 3 years and promoted on live album? I like em ofc, favorite Blaze songs, even with Blaze on vocals, I just think fans would like rather a deepcut from reunion era rather than those songs again. Chances of them doing other than those 2 from Blaze albums are very slim.
I would like them to do reunion focused tour, but done right, cause The final frontier tour 2010 wasn't so successful. I like it ofc, but casual fans didn't. Doing it ⅓ reunion ⅓ new songs ⅓ classics is the way to go I think.

The funny thing about this is that Maiden has already demonstrated how to do this. There’s no reason why they can’t use a Legacy of the Beast type of setlist to cover the entire career, include a few new songs, and then in the next leg cycle them out for another set of new songs (instead of going the Future Past route and doing a new tour entirely). This is the only realistic way for them to keep touring and release new music imo.

The original poster was not talking about The Angel and the Gambler mate! ;)

Joking aside, I really like The Writing on the Wall (one of the highlights of a fairly mediocre album), but I agree with you on the video.

Since they're sticking with these multi-year tours, I agree, a more versatile setlist is what they should be doing. Excitement goes down on the second leg of a tour with the same setlist, obviously, but that can be tempered by swapping out a fair amount of songs on each leg. Then there are the fans with loads of disposable income who'll travel to see them again the next year with a bunch of different songs they didn't see the last time around.

I’m not very excited by knebworth for this reason. I also thoroughly agree that going out on RFYL is not going out on a high.
