Inspired by a comment on the No More Lies song thread.
What's the worst Maiden song with just a Steve Harris alone writing credit?
Steve Harris in his prime was an unbelievably talented songwriter and that can never be denied. He still can write some good numbers now too.
That being said of...
Obviously in the eighties there was loads of them...
I have found that Maiden writing good short songs has become rarer and rare over the years. I never really cared that much for Speed or Light, Final Frontier, Wildest Dreams, Days of Future Past etc.
I suppose the cut off length would be...
I'm aware this is a terrible thread but I've always wanted to recreate those Iron Maiden pictures where they pretend to push plastic forks in their eyes with another Maiden fan...but for some reason I can't find any of those old pictures?
Does anyone have one of those pictures please?
Like...
Since this gets brought up here sometimes, here's Bruce saying they will never do it. Never seen this before.
It is what it is, there's no point detuning now anyway, they're right at the end. Poor old Blaze could have done with it though.
Does anyone else think Blaze sounds a much better singer and a much better fit with the band on their Doctor Doctor cover than anything else he did with them?
I still like his other stuff with them, but I've always found he sounded bloody great on Doctor Doctor. Is it that his voice at the time...
I have listened to some of Diannos 80's stuff and it seemed his voice actually got even better (for a short period)after Maiden. Rather than the slightly gruffer style of singing he was sounding quite operatic.
Do you think in another universe a healthy, drug free 1980 Diannos could have sung...
1. The Parchment
2. Hell on Earth
3. Death of the Celts
4. Lost in a lost world
The first two could change places and are two of the best things Mr Harris has written in years.
The third is decent.
The fourth... Eh
Firstly, this will never happen, it's just for discussions sake.
Secondly if you HAD to pick one, even if you hate all of them. Which do you think would be most interesting with Bruce?
I think Blood on the World's Hands as it has a really interesting riffy layout to it, which is...
I was noticing Metallica cutting out the middle section of Battery or cutting the Blackened solo short.
Which songs have Maiden changed live?
The few I can think of-
Angel and the Gambler definitely got shortened live over the tour.
Lord of the Flies. Transposed into a different key and I...
The above is Angel and the Gambler live 98. Steve plays basically the whole thing, strumming chords with his nails.
When did Steve start playing so many power chords on his bass? His early bass work was always very busy, fast finger work and fills. There may have been the occasional chord like...
Warning; thread may seem a little cynical and also gets very slightly into music theory
Remember all the riffs Steve used to write? Damn near every classic Maiden song from the eighties came from Steve’s punchy bass driven riffs. The likes of Wrathchild, Trooper, Aces High, Number of the Beast...
Steve has written some literally unsingable vocal lines in his time. He’s lucky that he has an absolute freak of nature in Bruce in the band that can manage them.
From Bruce’s book- “Steve had a habit of whistling softly into a portable cassette machine, and then transposing this into a vocal...
It was on the Ed Hunter tour in 99, not sure which show.
The band start to go into a Blaze era song when a fan(s) shouts their discontent about the song. Bruce shouts at him to show some respect or something like that.
Did that happen? Have a feeling it was before clansman.
Bruce has sung Futureal and The Clansman from Virtual XI, and Man on the Edge, Sign of the Cross and Lord of the Flies from the X Factor.
I personally think Bruce did a great job on the Blaze tunes but I still prefer Blaze on the three shorter songs as his low register really fits them well...
