It also gives a much fatter snare sound, especially when doing rim shots, because the surface area of the stick that's hitting the head is much larger.
I don't think we should assume a google-translated article summarizing the thoughts of some journalist with a supposed second-hand inside scoop on the band is in any way accurate.
Why would they skip Churchill's speech if they did this? It's the perfect cover for getting the plane ready and changing the stage set before the song starts.
I'm not saying he sounds shit - I agree he's miles better than he was in '85. I just think he's more inconsistent now, thanks in most part to the fact that they're ENDING THE SHOW with it for some ungodly reason
I've also really noticed how little he's moving around in the show, even now they're a few dates in and one would think he's gotten more comfy with the set- aside from some shenanigans with Eddie in a couple tunes, he's basically just staring at Nicko when he's not singing on most tunes. Really odd.
Bruce sounds great in parts of Aces (the scream is back, as is a "scream for me" at the end!), but is really struggling in others places... just very inconsistent.
Reminds me of all the shit people give Nicko when he says invariably their newest album is the best they've every done.
What do you want him to do, come out and say "Nah, Powerslave was better. Don't bother buying this new one."
Those weren't backing tracks for TBOS, for the same reason you cited about playing to a click. They were Michael Kenny playing sampled mixes of Bruce's backing vocals from the original recording.
