Yeah, but... I mean.... at the risk of creating controversy............ Which one would you have voted for? :halo:

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I join the others in wholeheartedly thanking @LooseCannon for a fun game! What gave me a few minutes of pleasant distraction every few days was the result of hours of work on his part, so the gratitude is genuine and well-deserved. My favorite new discoveries (of older artists) in the game...

Oh my oh my oh my, Could LooseCannon declare a tie? He has yet to choose He could make Powerslave lose Or make those who tout the lesser album cry!

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Even if one assumes that Seventh Son is more consistent (a sentiment with which I do not agree), it does not have any tracks that can rival Powerslave or Rime. And at times it is too awash in synths. So my vote goes to Powerslave. It is raw power throughout. Plus, the textured cover on the...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Anyhoo, back to THIS matchup: I'm cool with either album advancing [EDIT: placing third], though I voted for Rising. RtL is a more consistent album start to finish, but the highs on Rising are higher and give it the edge for me. Plus, bonus points for featuring Ronnie.

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I have never thought of any song on Powerslave as being "filler," nor do I understand why anyone would. It is literally inaccurate -- they did not need to add a track or fill time anywhere, as the runtime pushes up against the limits of a vinyl LP. They could have dropped, say, "Losfer Words"...

Best New Music - 2021 edition

Speaking of which, fans of thrash/Slayer should check out “Kill Grid” by Enforced. Saw a review of it on Banger and, unlike a lot of the extreme stuff they recommend, it got me excited. It’s pretty cool. Vocals are mostly just monotone shouts, which is suboptimal, but the riffing is tasty.

Love the album cover. When I saw it I got excited for a cool, punk-type release...but then saw “prog-jazz” which made me sad.

Rough translation: @LooseCannon ain't yo' bitch. Nonetheless, I absolutely encourage @Lampwick 43 to do this. (I shall not.)

    "Black sheep" albums you like

These are not "black sheep" albums at all. They are generally well-regarded classics. Any Dream Theater album is arguably a black sheep album. (Zing!)

    Coronavirus

Nice pun. Just looked it up, as I was curious. CanSino's one-dose vaccine is, according to Bloomberg, comparable to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine: it is less likely to protect people from getting mild symptoms than the two-dose vaccines offered by Pfizer and Moderna, but it is quite...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Honestly New York City might be bigger (and more cosmopolitan) than Topeka. I mean....duh. And yes, the analogy is apt. Chemical Wedding is an enjoyable, mostly unknown album that Bruce made while slumming between stints with a real band. Paranoid is the most important metal album of all...

I’m not *upset* that Helloween beat Holy Diver, no one should be, it’s just a game. I do think it’s funny, sort of in a “kids say the darndest things” way. Or like the Darwin Awards. Heck, a lot of people still voted for Trump in 2020. As Jim Morrison once sang, “people are strange.”

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I don't think anyone is a scumbag for having different taste than me. To wit: my wife often exhibits poor taste in music, yet I do not believe she is a scumbag. Indeed, most people in the world do not care for the music that we on this forum like, yet we are not scumbags. (Well, I mean, not...

Legacy Of The Beast Post-Pandemic Leg

I clicked on this thread thinking there was news! Nope. Can't wait to get back to see the boys again. In the meantime, hard to believe it has been over five years since this shindig (featuring @bearfan and son, @MrKnickerbocker, @LooseCannon , @Wästed The Great and myself in Vegas for Book...

GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

All fair points except that one, considering that Dio helped invent power metal. No way to prove this, but I'm guessing even the guys in Helloween would vote for Holy Diver too!
