However, I’m not allowed to discuss the background.

But if you want to show that some members of the band are unhappy because of Simon, you hav eto post other hints.

On the contrary, that's a sign that he's still interested and wants to achiev good results.

We need other clues.

So, there are fans who are very upset by Simon's playing, and then there are others who try to downplay all the negatives, stiffness, etc.

We all understand that it's Steve's decision and that he probably won't change it, but we're all allowed to discuss it. I myself sit somewhere in the middle. I see some flaws, but on the other hand, I understand that this is the closing chapter for the band, and maybe they simply don't want to bring some big-name drummer into their ranks. They don't see the need for it.

Knowing that, I wish Simon luck and have slightly downgraded my expectations regarding the drumming. I don't expect Nicko's swing, flair, looseness, or that slightly jazzy, flamboyant feel he brought to the band.

But... I think that if there's persistent discontent with the drumming at a higher level within the band, that may be significant in some way. It could disturb the waters a little behind the curtains.

Again, I don't wish Simon any ill. He's in an unfortunate position, somewhat similar to the one Blaze was in. On the other hand, I would welcome more standout drumming - something a little less AC/DC-like, relatively speaking.

Can't say ive noticed anything different l. He's always been a bit of a perfectionist when it comes the live sound. He's had his moments since he came back but I dont see him not enjoying it.

Adrian having issues with the tempo again? Wow. Or with the fill. He's a perfectionist live, so maybe it's that.

Steve (he said it) and probably Bruce are pleased with Simon.

That’s not what I meant. He’s got a dream job. If I were him, I wouldn’t give a shit about what people think.

And he’s doing a good job. He’s a different drummer to Nicko. I’m happy with that.

I’m more concerned about Bruce than Simon.

Exactly. And he looked pissed off in the 80's. That's just his look.



I saw them in Boston last week and one of the things that stood out was that it was about as active and animated as I can remember seeing Adrian in a long time.
 
Adrian is a perfectionist and sometimes when things don't go as planned, he shows his dissatisfaction. Nothing more, nothing less. That's also why the quality in performances has always been better when he is in the band, compared to times when he wasn't.

I have a feeling that Simon asked him to signal him about tempos and they talk about it. I have also seen videos where Adrian walks past Simon and gives him thumbs up. So, it's not only negative.

In sofia show he did signs of aproval to simon too. Like in the video but saying good. I said it before i dont see that horrible drum play at all and apart from us at the shows everybody was onjoying it
 
I have no problem with Simon. To me, the band sounds fine so far.
But if we are honest, we have to admit that this sort of on-stage coaching for a drummer in one of the biggest metal bands is odd.
Whether it is help or praise.
With Nicko, it was a situation that can’t be compared to this.
 
I have a hint: In his interviews, Steve is never asked about the new drummer. Whether things are going well or if everyone in the band is happy.
It would be a natural question for a journalist to ask. So Steve doesn’t want to be asked that.

And that means there are disagreements. Steve isn’t the type who could just hypocritically pretend to be enthusiastic.

But what I do find strange is that the people who started this thread haven’t checked in and aren’t answering follow-up questions, such as what their source is:

If a simple observation is already considered "a conspiracy” here, then it is no wonder new users don’t come back.

Do you know how often Rush are asked about their work with Anika Nilles and talk about it?
But appently no one wants to know in interviews how things are going with Simon or how it feels for the band right now.
It is an interesting difference.

Nicko was great, but Peart was arguably the greatest rock percussionist of all time, so replacing him is a bigger deal.
