I think Phantom of the Opera was the most notorious example. If anything, during the 80s they played twice as fast, which certainly took a toll on Bruce.

But on the other hand, it allowed for some songs to return. Flight Of Icarus was the source of arguments between Steve and Bruce/Adrian and they avoided it like the plague for almost 20 years.

I haven't seen them yet (still a month or so away from the concert) but I do want to say that Maiden have been on a downward trajectory when it comes to live performances. A couple of factors are combining on a major point: they're old. They're 70 or in the vincinity, and Nicko was older than them. Even with a fully healthy Nicko they were going to sound slow. Up to Book of Souls they were golden, it's what came later than makes me scratch my head. The band knows this might be their "first last" tour as well. They can't pretend not to face it like that.

The band are playing superbly - I've seen them 3 times on the RFYL tour - and certainly members i.e. Davey are playing out of their skin.
Simon D ain't Nicko and could never be. I understand people having an issue with his approach but its a minor gripe and overall the experience is amazing. Would I like them to go and hunt out an Anika Niles quality player? Of course but that will never happen.
You will love the gig when it comes round, trust me.

I didn't mean that as a negative. I just wanted to point out, that the current tempos can't be blamed on Simon. He's playing what he's tasked with.

Well,they are old 80s,90s and 00s are gone lol. But this new stage of them sounds great too. I do miss bruce running up down and his energy but he is doing great shows. But you can see that he is more tired than previous tours i think he started to take it more easy and relaxed since 2017. We cant compare the beast he was during 80s 90s or his energy early in the reunion,but singing? He is doing great for his age

Well yeh their live peak was from 1999 to maybe 2010

2013 tour was great too. The maiden england but maybe since the cancer they slow a bit more. And then bruce had surgeries. But if he can still singing like that and he moves more than others so,still good frontman.
