Adrian, Janick and Dave's guitars and Steve's basses

Some of the guitars will be on display at Eddfest.

The SG and the Guild bass are news. We kinda knew about the others.

Adrian getting dragged by the tank tracks story is also hillarious. Some info from Sean and Colin is wrong, tho. The doubleneck was first used on the A Matter Of The Beast tour and the SG was on stage for the last time in 2012.

So.... according to this story, the live after death rosewood strat is not the early days rosewood strat? They say here this was bought in 83? Interesting....

LAD 64 Kahler Strat was bought on 1st of August 1983 in Nashville. It all checks out. It also appears on that guitar collection photo from 1983 backstage. It's first stage appearance was in 1984 during the Powerslave tour.

Early days rosewood Strat was a CBS-era Strat anyway...

The white/cream Stratocaster from the 83' collection photo is not the LAD 64' Kahler Strat.

From what I can tell, that guitar is from somewhere between 1959 and 1962. The spotting details that indicate that are:

1) The wide position markers on the 12th fret (discontinued in 1963)Cream strat.jpg475287_356403621138211_1567978924_o.jpg
2) Slab rosewood fretboard (discontinued in 1962)
3) Fender "spaghetti" logo (used through 1964)

The neck on the LAD 64 Kahler Strat has:

1) Narrow position markers on the 12th fret (introduced in 1963)
2) Later thicker "transition" Fender logo (introduced in 1964, generally associated with the L-Series of serial numbers)

The white Strat was always a 61/62. The LAD Kahler Strat was always a 64. We knew that. The only info about the 64 to me is that it was fire-damaged when Dave bought it.

Very hard to get good photos at Eddfest during the day, because of the reflective glass. Hopefully someone else had better luck! :)

Sandberg did a copy of Blacike? That is interesting.

Also, this is kinda a shit display. Hopefully those can be seen better in the future somehow.

I wanted to take more later when the sun wasn't shining on the glass, but there was a coach to catch.

The stage props weren't covered. I can post them here if there's interest, but I didn't want to go off topic.

But still, if there is a glass and a security guard there is no need for it to have a fence 200 meters from it.

I wonder if those amps have genuinely been sat unused since early 80s? From what I've gathered in the past all the studio records haven generally just been the live gear with maybe a different 'new' amp here and there

Not really. Maybe for Janick. Dave for instance famously used Les Pauls through Victories and Fenders durnig TBOS. Adrian also had an array of amps in the studio for AMLOAD.

The 80's amps were likely not fired up since the Powerslave tour. Dave went to GK after that and I believe it was JCM900's during early 90's. Also, Dave nowadays uses A LOT more gain than he did back then.

Yeah sorry I should have rephrased it a bit better. I had actually typed out that Davey used Victory & Fender amps on BOS and H used Blackstars too but then ended up not posting that haha.. I was more so meaning that H Davey and Jan don't seem to go sit in a room of rare and vintage amps and go through them all and try everything, something different for each song etc. so yeah I would imagine those JMPs or JCM800s etc. have been sat unused for decades. Which makes you just think how much other gear that didn't make it to the Eddfest displays, is sitting hidden away...

Reading Kevin Skirleys diaries for recording TFF, in Nassau - seems like it took about a day to get all the guitar amps rigged up and then they were into it - not a lot of time to dial in a whole load of different amps, hence why I think it's just mainly their live rigs with a couple extra options if needed. I'm sure I've seen KS's photos in the past from the studio and you can clearly see their live rigs in the room. But either way, I would still imagine what they record with is 'close' to what they use live - as least from 90s/2000s onwards.

AFAIK, they have all rigs in storage. Almost nothing was ever sold. Janick is still using a version of what he used to use when he joined Maiden anyway. Dave and Adrian's rigs have beenin the same style since the reunion and just change an unit or two before the tour.

Don’t forget Dave using Crate Amps in 1992! That always seemed a bit odd to me.

Those are Marshall JMP 1987 MK II 50w amps, made between ca 1978-1981. They're basically the same as the 1987 Plexis of the late 60s - early 70s, but in the same head-box/cabinet as the new 2203/2204 Master Volume heads introduced in 1975. Dave's heads don't have master volumes though. They were (at the very least live) last used on the Powerslave tour, after that, both he and H went to Gallien Krueger 250ML/RL solid state amps (ML being the combo version, RL being the rackmount head-version, which they used for touring) for Somewhere in Time, then GK2100SEL heads for 7th son (Dave actually kept the 2100SEL in his rack for No Prayer on The Road Tour, along with some new Marshall heads, presumably the JCM900 series).

It'd be awesome to see pics of those racks!
