My issue with Simon goes beyond just the slower tempos; his playing feels like it lacks a natural swing. He hits hard and keeps solid time, but I'm missing that deep groove and those loose fills that make the music feel immersive. Since I'm not a drummer, it's hard to articulate, but his style just feels a bit too 'square' and rigidly locked in, rather than creatively flowing with the song.
I feel like Nicko, even on his TFP version post-stroke, was able to create that immersion with his drums and creativity that Simon just hasn't been able to do for me.
