RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

Well, a couple of years time is 2028. The inclusion of maybe is interesting (is it less, or even more...naah). He keeps saying ''different'' things here and there, but they're perhaps a little more certain about the future now. I guess and hope so.
I think they know 1 year off and then the speak. Thats all. Im still thinking that if they retire they will do something special no a announcment on the website

These scenarios need to be someone younger.
But what if a younger drummer also played not that fast, because that's what Bruce, Adrian and the band want now. Simon is doing fine, it's just that it makes a big impression because Nicko is unique and he doesn't have his live experience. He definitely can/should play some parts faster, I doubt it's like an issue for Steve.

I saw videos of him in other bands and he can play heavier

No, “a couple of years” doesn't mean 2028. It means two or more years. The wording doesn't make sense if you're specifically thinking of your plans for 2028.

You can explain the contradictions: Other cities might indeed see them again sooner, but Iron Maiden will never play a show in Nürburg - unless they’re booked for Rock am Ring.
And that most likely won’t happen again for a few years.

Right! 2028 (or perhaps even sooner?) in some cities, maybe in a couple of years at Rock am Ring again.

My issue with Simon goes beyond just the slower tempos; his playing feels like it lacks a natural swing. He hits hard and keeps solid time, but I'm missing that deep groove and those loose fills that make the music feel immersive. Since I'm not a drummer, it's hard to articulate, but his style just feels a bit too 'square' and rigidly locked in, rather than creatively flowing with the song.

I feel like Nicko, even on his TFP version post-stroke, was able to create that immersion with his drums and creativity that Simon just hasn't been able to do for me.

Yes something like that. But i didnt feel this is not iron maiden or this is a disaster nothing like that.they are going to finish their carrear soon. Why look for a superstar drummer if you know are going to be there for maybe 5 more years. Drummer for tours he was announced like that. And surely he gets paid different than nicko.

Absolutely. That's why I find the parallelism with Burr rather simplistic. Clive and Nicko, each in their own style, had supernatural groove and swing. And both added something unique to the formula. I can't check any of those boxes (at least yet) with Dawson.

you know shit's getting real when people start calling him by his last name

all joking aside I agree with most of the points you make.

And will Rush be around for a long time? I think the starting point was very similar, big shoes to fill in both cases.
I think the difference is that Rush were courageous.
They chose someone they hadnot played with very often before, someone they didn’t know very well, someone of a different nationality, they didn’t know if they’d get along with on tour.

They had insider info. Anika played with Jeff Beck. John "Skully" McIntosh was Geddy's long time bass tech and overall right hand man (vintage bass buying buddy), who took the gig of being Jeff's guitar tech after Rush was done (and later, Joe Satriani's after Jeff's passing). Skully got to know Anika and called Geddy telling him that if they ever want to do something again, she is the one. After Alex decided to maybe tour again (or... Geddy convinced him), they called her. I'm sure that Skully had the answer to all of those questions.

Insider info apart, which @matic22 has broken down already, you can't possibly think that Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson just choose "someone" to fill in Neil Peart's shoes without carefully weigh all the aspects of the matter and rehearse with her beforehand.

It's not that they randomly met Anika at the pub and went like, "you want a gig?", you know.

Exactly. They were rehearsing for a year and apparently it wasn't going great during the first few rehearsals.

Also, I'd say Simon is doing better this year, which leads me to believe that they were under-rehearsed last year. I mean, some songs were good (like Rime), but some songs were not so good (like 2MTM).

Not sure they are that well rehearsed this year either.
True, but some songs are much better this year drumming-wise. Murders and 2MTM are the first ones that come to mind.

I mean, the mentality of "Let's get Steve's drummer and do the usual 3 weeks of rehearsing and fuck it." last year wasn't the right one. I think that this is clear now. At least they should've rehearsed for a few weeks more.

The band went through a heart transplant to survive, but they did the usual rehearsing time last year and this year too, like nothing happened.
