Bruce's Solo Discography Ranked - The Complete List

68: Dreamstate
Average Score: 6.4/10
Skunkworks 3/13

More Skunkworks. Back to back with "Hell On Wheels", both songs Jer was hoping would pop up sooner than later. Not many Skunkworks fans on this forum, and thus the ratings for the songs are completely different than I ever expected. Not sure about this one though. 68 isn't too bad for it all told...

I love dreamstate!
ive given skunkworks so many chances and the only song i enjoy a bit is dreamstate.
This is such a strong album. Also good!
The closest thing to a dud is "Dreamstate", which is still pretty decent.

Yet again another Skunkworks track. I've never thought too much about "Octavia"; I think it's decent but not the greatest. Maybe it'll grow on me. I love the title though. Always thought something with that title would have a lot of potential. I dunno. Above average, say the voters, but not Bruce's best song.

Choice comments:

forgettable
I would consider it the most "commercial" song on the album besides BFTE. One of the only instantaneous songs.
weaker song
Octavia is his Smashing Pumpkins song. :)

That's mostly how I feel about Skunkworks as a whole. Love all the song titles, though I can't say the same about the songs themselves.
I like the titles and I like the songs; however, little sticks with me when the album ends. Which is sad, because the album is great when listening to it.

66: Shoot All The Clowns
Average Score: 6.45/10
Balls To Picasso 2/10

Not sure if "Shoot All The Clowns" deserves to be the second lowest ranked song from BTP, it's kinda catchy. I like Bruce way of singing "Shoot, shoot... shoot all the cloowwwnss!" He's done worse, but votes collided together to smash this number into the 66, no third six. As a side note, both "Octavia" and "Shoot All The Clowns" have a 6.45/10 score. This comes from rounding. "Octavia" is a straight forward 6.45, but "Shoot All The Clowns" is a 6.45 repeating.

shoot all the clowns
I'm currently hooked on Shoot All the Clowns from Balls To Picasso.
Die, Shoot All The Clowns!
Shoot All the Clowns was my first Bruce song.
that commerical sounding, Aerosmith-piece of crap
Shoot All The Clowns is awesome.
'Shoot All The Clowns' is easily my favourite song from 'Balls To Picasso'. The 12" extended remix is particularly interesting.
Worst song on the album. I really dislike the chorus and Bruce's singing. It also has that funky metal thing which seemed to be a bit trendy at the time, but I don't think it goes well with Bruce's voice.
Shoot shoot .. shoot all the clowns
"Shoot All the Clowns" is pretty awesome and fun IMO.

Back to the bonus tracks folks, and at this point we're finally starting to see the extras that people actually enjoy. Take this song for example. "Fire Child" has such a lot going for it, it's a pretty cool song with an awesome chorus and great lyrics. Not Bruce's best, mind you, but it's a nice listen. My only complaint is Bruce's voice - either his singing is off or there's something wrong with the production, but the same kinda thing has popped up on Maiden b-sides from the '90s and even "Tears of the Dragon"'s chorus falls victim to it - though only slightly; you can tell it's there but you don't think about it much because of the fact that "Tears of the Dragon" is a goddamn masterpiece. But yes, "Fire Child" is a good bonus track and appears on this list 15 spots before we reach the Top 50. Whew!

If people could stop voting for 'Fire Child', that would be great.
The only B-side from that album that's worth a damn, IMO, is Fire Child, and it's also not as good as the album cuts.
Fire Child is one of the dullest songs.
Not Bruce's best vocal performance but it's a very enjoyable song.

Average Score: 6.55/10
Tattooed Millionaire 6/10

"Gypsy Road - it's the highway that I run to!
Gypsy Road - welcome to your DREEEEEEEEEEEAAMS!
"

Let me state from experience that this is one of the hardest Bruce lines to sing. Kudos to him for pulling it off. The ballad track on Tattooed Millionaire leaves us now, and I wish TM stopped giving us its tracks because outside of "Zulu Lulu" and "Lickin' the Gun" I find it unjustifiable for this album to be beaten down like this. Well, maybe "All The Young Dudes" too, because while a good cover there isn't much else to it, but somehow or other it ended up becoming the fourth best song on this album according to voters. Sad! Anyway, I like "Gypsy Road", just as I like most of Tattooed Millionaire. Good album, good song... if only Bruce could stop making far better songs, grrr!

Die Gypsy road
he's pretty damn awesome on his own 'Gypsy Road' with Janick.
Gypsy Road is also a nice classic rock tune as well and a notch above the rest, which is essentially B side material.
I have Gypsy Road in my head. Definitely one of the better songs on Tattooed Millionaire.
The most ballad-esque song on the album, it's good but nothing too special.

65: Fire Child
Boo. The middle part of Bruce's unofficial cowboys & Indians trilogy ("Son Of A Gun", "Fire Child", "Sacred Cowboys") tells things from the Indians' perspective and serves as a neat counterpoint. Love the chanting parts. Oh well.

I never actually thought of it this way. That's pretty neat!

Not sure if "Shoot All The Clowns" deserves to be the second lowest ranked song from BTP
No, it deserves to be THE lowest.
One of those rare Bruce (or Maiden) songs that are activelly irritating. Especially when you listen to bonus BTP disc, an there are like 56 more totally unnecessary versions of Shoo Shoo (some of them even longer than the default one). Good that I have a skip button on the driving wheel of late :D

Well, you've got tracks from two different aborted albums in there, so it's a strange mix.

The most divisive ones are from the work with Keith Olsen, which include:
  • No Way Out...Continued
  • Cadillac Gas Mask
  • Over And Out
  • Tibet
  • Tears Of The Dragon (First Bit, Long Bit, Last Bit)
...and a sixth one that I don't recall off the top of my head. Might have been "The Post-Alternative Seattle Fallout" or "Elvis Has Left The Building".

Elvis Has Left The Building. The Post-Alternative Seattle Fallout was recorded with the Skunkworks guys in 1994.

Okay, I've closed the polls. Time to tally up the results! I hope to begin the list within the next few days, hopefully Sunday or even sooner with all luck. I'm so hyped lol!

Thanks for all your hard work. Would it be possible to know how many people voted? Thanks!

The highest number of responses was for The Chemical Wedding, which had a total of 22. I think the lowest was 19, though on occasion there were songs where a person either forgot or ignored, and these ended up being lower. I think 18 is the lowest number of votes for any one song, and 22 the highest.
