General fan vibe during the Blaze days

Shit, I completely forgot about Death!

I take it back, best thing to come out of the '90s are "Hangar 18" (greatest song, period) and The Sound of Perseverance (greatest song, period).

1990-1995: Painkiller, Rust in Peace, Pornograffiti, Pantera's classic albums, FOTD, QR's Empire and Promised Land, AC DC Live, the Black Album
1995-2000: The Time of the Oath, Bruce's two metal albums, Land of the Free and what is to me THE best album in the nineties:

Symbolic is an experience though. Every single song just flows right into the next, and they're so different yet so cohesive. I like TSOP, maybe I just find Symbolic somewhat 'prettier' and easier to listen to, rather than something you'd have to be in the mood for. (Sorry I can't add any substance to the actual topic, I was born in 98)

Tons of great metal albums in the 90s: "Images and Words" by DT, "Parallels" and "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" by Fates Warning, "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" by Symphony X, the four Conception albums, "Tyranny" by Shadow Gallery, "Streets", "Edge of Thorns" and "Handful of Rain" by Savatage...

I can see where you're coming from, Symbolic is usually considered to be their masterpiece anyway, and it's right after TSOP in my list. I think the main differences are the feelings one receives from the albums. Symbolic feels like it's just throwing you into a wasteland where you have to set out on a 'Perennial Quest' to find what you're searching for, as the scenery slowly builds up, unveiling new landscapes as you go along. TSOP feels like it's title - it's The Sound Of Perseverance. Throughout the band's discography, they always pushed forward with each album, and TSOP is really where they reached their peak. Symbolic may have my overall favorite song by them, Crystal Mountain, but it also has some tracks that I would overall give 8s to. TSOP however, has no song that dips below 9. I agree, Symbolic is an experience, but The Sound Of Perseverance is a masterpiece, and probably my favorite album ever.

Also given that we're so off-topic now, maybe we should create a thread for Death and continue the discussion. :D

Sure as hell looks like it. They didn't promote Silicon Messiah at all and released it the same week as BNW, pretty much ensuring even people who liked Blaze wouldn't buy the album.

Wasn't the album released a week before Brave New World (22nd May vs 29th May)?

I don't see how this would affect Silicon Messiah sales? If anything it would increase it with the Maiden association and all!

I think it is just a combination of self-pitying and scapegoating by Blaze more than anything else.

Agree. I thought so too as soon as I read that quote. Although I like to hear him rant on record companies. Very true!

Record companies, albeit not the nicest businesses in the world, did not make many other artists' careers fail...

Music is a example of something that isn't suited to be industrialized like a product. Music is organic! I often perfer club performances from local bands than huge arena shows. But each to their own!

The moment you charge people for something things are likely to be industrialised...

Not necessarily! The definition is "to introduce industry into (an area) on a large scale". Which doesn't happen on a smaller scale ;) Say club shows.

I think the feeling was that people might try out Blaze's album amidst the hype of Brave New World. In reality, Silicon Messiah, which is an absolute hidden gem of metal, a true diamond in the rough, was buried beneath the avalanche that became the reunion.
