I doubt they drop TNOTB and Hallowed again. Altough I think Hallowed should be retired. Bruce is struggling more and more, and they can't top the visuals they did for the song on this tour. And what's the point in doing the same again? About 666, I never really liked that song, but I know people wants to hear it. But as I said before, I'm sure The Evil That Men Do will return. They didn't play it for 7 years now, and this never happened before. And I'm hoping Only The Good Die Young will finally make the cut.
 
Ah, fun times, let's recap last night.

Probably the most full I've ever seen the amphitheater packed - I've for certain never seen the lawn that full before. Taking the bad with the good, was a logjam getting out of the parking lot last night. Genuinely surprised someone didn't go drag this one dweeb in a compact that decided to drive across the lot and cut in line to get out out of his car and beat him with jumper cables. For you see, I didn't have jumper cables.

First time ever seeing Megadeth last night and it kicked off with a surprise with them opening with Devil's Island for the first time since 1988. Been a fan of them rotating songs this tour around despite being in an opener situation, leaves you guessing what's coming next. Nice to see some songs get cycled in for the first time since New Jersey though - those being Devil's Island and She-Wolf. Would've preferred Mechanix to be in and definitely wouldn't have included I Don't Care from the new album as I think there's better songs to choose from if you're going to play a second new song, but, beggars can't be choosers.

Mustaine can still play like a madman, but, despite the board notably turning his vocals down, it's obviously he's really just mumbling the songs nowadays. Would I go see them do a full headlining set if/when they come back to Chicago? Eh, maybe, only for the farewell angle.

Onto the main event, it's great seeing the Run For Your Lives setup in person with your own eyes rather than trying to dissect everything through a Youtube clip. Visually, the show's spectacular and the video visuals definitely pop off the screen. I thought being slightly off to the side, the effect of the big PoM Eddie at the end of the set might come off a bit goofy, but with the spotlights shining around and on him, it does provide a bit of a 3D effect. Another instance where this really worked is at the end of Powerslave when Bruce is standing underneath the zoomed in shot of Pharaoh Eddie where it appears the Pharoah's 'beard' is popping out of the screen.

Sound-wise, whoever's on the board since Legacy 2.0 is still crushing it. Volume wasn't overbearing and the drums have a great solid bass-y sound to them. Love the way Simon's snare in particular is mic'd up, sounds like a shotgun blast going off.

Speaking of Simon, seeing and listening to the show in person I think he fits in really well with the group. Obviously he isn't Nicko or is even striving to be Nicko, but his approach still carries the songs along well. Not the flashiest player like his predecessor with fills all over, but for what his role is that's perfectly normal. Think he was given a little bit of room to improvise a little bit as he added a fill towards the end of Seventh Son that caught me off guard as it's not in the studio version.

Chicago crowds are always great and I've noticed each time they come through, Bruce is in a tremendously positive spirit here. The crowds here are always receptive no matter if it's a new album tour or a greatest hits show. Think he may've gotten a half-beat off at some point in Run to the Hills but he recovered well. I'll need to listen to 2 Minutes to Midnight from the show at some point as his second "Scream for me, Chicago!" was a bit late during the exit of the solo and it sounded like the band lost their place for a sec. I could've just been imagining it though.

Bit bummed I'm only going to end up catching one show of this tour. If you ask me? Better than Legacy of the Beast.

I imagine they will be taking credit for bringing them back and those songs being massively successful with the crowds, even if it did take longer than it should.:bigsmile:

About the sound not being high,thats what i felt at the show i went i was at the front and was clear and good but didnt felt that wave of sound. Seems that nowadays bands sound like that. I dont know what it is but is new for me.

The takeaway I had in the Legacy 2.0 shows in 2022 was "Okay, the drums sound more full now and better... but holy crap they've got the master volume for the mix way too high." There's a point where you've got everything so loud where everything's fighting to be heard over the other instruments and, in turn, you sound like you're listening to a construction site rather than a band.

I think the drums have been mixed better since emerging out of the pandemic, but The Future Past was really the turning point for "Ah, I'm listening to this and I don't feel that the band is trying to make me go deaf."
