As for my nitpicks, while I love Murders, it's kind of a strange and obscure opener for a hits-heavy setlist. And odd the intro is just the recording, and Simon doesn't come in until the opening fill.

I think Murders is the chosen opener AND because of Beast Over Hammersmith. They had to skip the intro, the drum roll is perfect to start a show. Btw, the intro of it (like Ides Of March) is one of the best live build-ups.

Murders (and they can do a great backdrop with it, perhaps that had an influence; I guess it would have been for Prowler too) is more popular than Tailgunner, but not by all that much. Murders is also faster than Wrathchild, for example. They probably didn't want to open with Trooper.

While I’m biased because I’m not really a fan of Killers (the album), I find Murders to be a weak and underwhelming opening song. That being said, I’m hoping that seeing it live later this week will change my mind.

The intro of Murders is a 10/10 for me. Love the bass line there. Once it gets going and goes all early-Maiden-happy-go-lucky it loses me.

I think I phrased my earlier comment weirdly so let me rephrase to avoid misunderstandings.

Moonchild for example, back in 88 the intro was on tape and the band only started playing once the verses started. In 2008 they did the whole thing live, including the acoustic guitars and Adrian playing the synth line on the guitar.
Murders is another where the intro is usually on tape, but there were some instances where they played the quiet intro live as well.

For Aces High (as an example) I don't think they have ever played its instrumental intro live, right? It's always been Churchill's Speech (and now Churchill's Remix ) into the tape intro and then the band starts with the twin leads and the pyros.
Similarly with stuff like CSIT and Satellite 15.

IESF is a good call, due to Bruce's live vocals.

I think its also quite rare for an opener to be played elsewhere in the set, which your examples both have done. Plus with Murders its opened 3 tours, none of which were its album tour!

I love Murders as an opener and for me it totally fits this set, a good, solid nod to the early days to kick things off, it's lively, bouncy, sing along chorus, great explosion onto the stage. Perfect opener for this guy.

All set for tomorrow, 20th row Janick's side right in front of the PA. Had about this seat for Priest/Cooper and the sound was great then with a great vantage point of the show, so, I'm pumped.

When I first saw maiden on the future past tour, I only new trooper, FOTD, and wasted years. I didn't have the damndest idea what any other song was. But it was still fucking awsome. So no few causals not knowing it won't matter.

Lucky you. Somewhere in Time is my favourite album, and I love Senjutsu too. It broke my heart that they didn't come to Hungary with that tour. And going to another country for a show was impossible for my poor wallet.

Same, I only saw a festival gig of that tour and would have loved to travel to other places for more gig visits - but couldn't for financial reasons too

The rest of the setlist has in my books at least 50% chance to reappear. They will not drop Infinite Dreams for good after 38 year hiatus and not even do a full tour with it. I wouldn't mind if they retired Wasted Years but as long as its not in the next tour (better not be!)

Nice seats. I'm getting pretty damn excited myself. Been to long since I've seen the boys live. I'm hoping the rain fucks off for the show as its going to be to damn cold to be getting wet. Either way ill be loosing my voice out in the lawn.
