''If Iron Maiden went into the studio, I'd be delighted to get back on with them. But it'd have to be something more simple really.
- he then names songs like SIASL and WY: That kind of song. I'd love to do something like that."
 
That’s fine, the rest of them should do more simple playing and more simple songs too. No one needs a whole album full of epics, it used to be one epic per album, now they not only do entire albums of epics but double albums full of epics!

This is an interview from earlier this year, right, but we missed this quote from Steve?:

One of the traps Maiden (and Metallica) have fallen into is because they record a new album once every 5 or 6 years in Maiden's case -- or 7 or 8 for Metallica -- both bands end up:

- heading to the studio with too many accumulated half-finished ideas/riffs built up over years
- feeling that fans need lots of music to make up for the wait because the next album could be the best part of a decade away
- remembering how unprofitable it all is now (paying for studios + producers + time of the road vs the collapse in CD revenue)

I am not comparing the quality of their records, but the bloated double albums both bands now produce are an outcome of the above issues. (Maiden's being far better than Metallica's IMO of course!).

I'd argue that the last couple of Metallica albums are better than the last couple of Maiden albums. At least I like them more.
 
Well, James and co. take their time in the studio. They’re not in a race to finish the recording. As for the solos, Kirk is just bored at this point!
