Expected, but 2 singles this year would a surprise. Let's see though. He said the co-written song with his son is a key track (he even said they're still brainstorming ideas and riffs, more collab in the future?).

He also mentioned that he'll be shooting 4 or 5 videos(!) at some point this month. More singles, more than 10 songs on the album? I doubt it.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on Bruce's upcoming album, besides a collaboration with his son on one song, there will also be a guest appearance by Andreas Kisser - perhaps even Derrick Green as well.

Personally, I'm not particularly drawn to collaborations for their own sake. They can make an album feel more like an all-star jam session than a cohesive artistic statement.

That said, I fully acknowledge that the song should be judged only after we've actually heard it. At this point, I'm simply expressing my personal preferences - or perhaps my own prejudices. Maybe it'll turn out to be great. Maybe it'll be a little too left-field for my taste. We'll see.

Edit: After posting this, I remembered Avantasia's debut album, which is a full-blown collaboration album - and one that I really like.

So I guess the problem isn't collaborations per se. The songs simply have to be great, and the musicians involved need to complement each other. It's about having the right people, at the right time, in the right place.
 
As time passes, I'm strengthening in my belief that "Rain on the Graves" was one of the very best and most complete songs on The Mandrake Project. To me, this song is a great mix of the music and Bruce's lyrical hero attitude. Also, this song easily fits on The Chemical Wedding, IMO.
Again, this song is fully fleshed out and works well within the existing boundaries of the TMP album microcosm. There's no need to improve it, apart from Bruce's occasional lisp, but that's beside the point.
Me likes.

I like the Mandrake Project. There isn’t a song I dislike.

My major gripe with the album is the compilation nature of it. You can clearly hear at least 3 versions of Bruce.

  • 2024 post-cancer Bruce with a lisp.
  • 2013 Bruce
  • Pre-2000 Bruce

I just find it jarring to hear his voice get younger as the album progresses. You can also hear two versions on Eternity Has Failed. They just used his demo for the first voice and then recorded the new verse. To me it almost sounds like a duet.

Ideally he should have completed the album a decade ago, or just released an EP of the older songs. The album feels like it is slapped together rather than being cohesive.

Yep, same for me. I think the last time I scored it it totaled to an 80% for me. No bad songs, just a bit of a hodgepodge and not as good as AoB, TCW, ToS, and Skunkworks. Also wish the production wasn’t so muddy.
 
Balls is better for me, Tyranny and TM worse

EDIT: maybe Tyranny is a much of a muchness, the better stuff on Tyranny is better but there's more tracks on Tyranny bringing the average down. Sonata is doing the heavy lifting on bringing the average of TMP down
