RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

If only there had been an obvious pick for a competent young drummer with the ability to breathe some new life into the band from the start...

You know, I initially thought they might get Joe but Steve went with his mate he's been comfortable playing with for years.

Simon is doing fine. Yes, he's not Nicko and I don't think they wanted him to be.

But let's be honest if they did get Joe folks here would find something to bitch about because....Maidenfans.

I think Blaze has every chance of being the real dark horse at Knebworth this weekend and stealing just about all the spotlight from Iron Maiden, Eddie and the Boys.

In fact, here's my prediction: IF IRON MAIDEN DON'T INVITE BLAZE ON STAGE TO SING JUST ONE SONG WITH THEM, THEY'VE CHICKENED OUT. Mark my words.

Now keep your fingers crossed.

In your (infinite) dreams :D

It would be cool though if they brought Blaze on to sing IM with Bruce

Yup, the live version they released with him is the definitive version of the song for me!
I'm in the same boat. While Bruce's studio and live versions are technically superior as far as note accuracy, there's something about Blaze's that makes that the version I always come back to. Maybe it's the lack of polish to his voice that makes it more believable that the guy singing is the one who's scared in the trenches. It's a bit more forceful yet vulnerable...I don't know. And I don't care that the chorus is more shouty (with some vibrato). It's brilliant.

Regarding the claim that "there's too much negativity on this forum," I respectfully disagree. I'd call it measured negativity.

We don't say Simon is a shitty drummer. We call him a very competent pub drummer.

We don't mock Steve for his reluctance to record new music. Most of us understand that he's just a little out of his mind and simply needs another tour to come to his senses. Then Album No. 18 will surely be recorded. At least this decade. I'm confident of that.

Some of us are a bit grumpy that they still won't tune down to make life easier for Bruce. But on the other hand, we're grateful they still haven't started playing heavy metal with synthesizers. That's a definite win.

There's still a small faction of secret Janick haters, but the rest of us say: hold on a minute—he's a very competent dancer. We should definitely keep him.

There's also a strong undercurrent that Maiden have lost their ear when it comes to album production. But thank God they haven't lost their eyesight—or any other vital body parts—and are still able to deliver the goods at this stage of their career. That's positivity if you choose to see it.

Fans from certain countries may not be thrilled with Bruce's vocabulary when addressing them, but if they're creative, they can use it as an educational opportunity and teach their children which behaviors might earn them those very specific words. As one wise man once said: "There are certain wrongdoings one should avoid if one doesn't want to be shat on by the albatross."

So, all in all, we're not completely fucked—just a little. Like all big families are. Cheers!
Well said. I was in a forum before finding MaidenFans, and dear god those people absolutely HATED everything the band did. It was miserable, and I found myself wondering if all Maiden forums were like that. "Measured negativity" is a good way to describe the criticism here, because it's almost never picking at subjects with no merit behind the criticism. No band is perfect, no band makes the best decisions every time, and it's fine to voice that when relevant to the discussion. Meanwhile, there's still mountains of praise for the band here despite the criticism, and plenty of understanding to go around when it comes to the collective age of the band and the fact they're still going.

In most cases, the criticism comes from places of frustration, seeing things happening that should appear to be common sense decisions within the band, i.e. Aces High, tuning down, stronger hiring practices perhaps, etc. In the end, though, we're simply armchair quarterbacks, screaming into the void hoping for the change we want to see. It's an outlet where we hope to be heard and understood by like-minded fans. That's how I see it, at least.

On a more serious note, as we all know, the Maiden boys will be recording at least four songs at Knebworth. It would be a perfect opportunity to bring Blaze on stage for one song - "Fear of the Dark" - and capture it for the video release. In my opinion, it would be a fantastic move.

Also, as we all know, Blaze is such a massive money magnet and a true commercial powerhouse - his appearance in the upcoming Run for Your Lives live film would surely help it sell a shitload more copies. Definitely something worth considering.

Edit: A quick explanation for anyone who may be wondering: the first part of the post was completely serious. The second part was meant humorously, with a bit of exaggeration and irony. However, the humorous part does not cancel out the first part. The suggestion itself still stands.
